Légère: Engineering Serving a Modern Reed
Since 1998, Légère has been developing synthetic reeds resulting from a joint effort between Guy Légère (chemist and clarinetist) and Mark Kortschot (composite materials specialist). The goal: to achieve high responsiveness and longevity while staying as close as possible to the feel and acoustics of a traditional cane reed.
Who is it for and for what use?
This reed is intended for bass clarinetists of intermediate to advanced level who wish to switch to synthetic while maintaining a tone compatible with the classical repertoire (orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber music), without excluding more versatile contexts.
Sound and Design
Made of polypropylene, it offers stable projection, consistent response, and good homogeneity. Its design aims for controlled projection and a rounder and darker tone, with a feel close to cane, while remaining stable against humidity.
