Summary of this score
This score is part of a reflection on sound material and the organization of timbre as a structuring element. Tristan Murail revisits his artistic encounter with Giacinto Scelsi and a "convergence" rather than a direct influence: the attention paid to the sound phenomenon, its micro-variations, and how color becomes a driving force of form. Within the framework of the "Giacinto Scelsi revisited" project, the composer takes as a starting point a sketch recorded by Scelsi on tape, made with early synthesizers, then transforms it into a work for instrumental ensemble accompanied by electronics.
Murail's work seeks to preserve a certain simplicity of the original material while embedding it in a finely articulated contemporary writing. This approach highlights the fusion of attacks, the continuity of sound, spectral transformations, and the listening to resonances, with particular attention to balances and transitions. The premiere was performed by Klangforum Wien under the direction of Emilio Pomarico in Witten, during the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik.
