An HX "pedal format": Helix DNA serving a single perfect effect
The HX One inherits the modeling quality of the HX family (known for effects very close to analog references) and condenses it into an ultra-simple format to use. The idea is not to replace a large multi-effects unit but to give you immediate access to a vast palette to complement an already built pedalboard, without multiplying pedals "for just one song".In the lineup, it positions itself as a premium auxiliary pedal: direct enough to be adjusted on the fly, yet deep enough to become a preset machine, MIDI controllable, and capable of adapting to different positions in the chain depending on the desired sounds.
For whom and for what: the ideal pedal when you want everything... without complicating your life
The Line 6 HX One is aimed at guitarists (and bassists) from motivated beginners to professionals who want a reliable and reproducible sound on stage as well as at home. It shines in very varied contexts: pop, rock, funk, indie, worship, ambient, electronic music, but also to thicken a more aggressive sound with well-calibrated modulations, delays, or pitch effects. In rehearsal or live, it excels as a "flex spot": you keep your signature pedals (drive, fuzz, preamp) and entrust the HX One with everything that needs to change from one track to another. In the studio, it is a quick solution to test colors, double a track in stereo, or lock settings thanks to presets.
Controls, presets, and connectivity: simple on the surface, formidable in depth
The effect selection is designed for speed: a dedicated selector chooses the model, and three encoders immediately edit the parameters displayed on the OLED screen. You move from a lush chorus to a rhythmic delay, then to a textured reverb, without diving into endless menus. The Flux Controller is the secret weapon: it allows automating several parameters simultaneously over a defined duration. For example, gradually increasing the mix of a delay, opening a filter, speeding up a modulation, or transforming a subtle reverb into an immersive pad, all triggered by foot. Add to this an adjustable input impedance to better respect your instrument's feel, and you get a very responsive pedal, even with demanding passive pickups.
Regarding integration, everything is there: stereo inputs/outputs, choice between true bypass and buffered DSP bypass (useful to preserve delay and reverb tails), MIDI In and MIDI Out/Thru on 5-pin DIN, and a USB-C port for updates and preset library management. You have 128 preset slots, accessible by foot or MIDI, and you can connect an optional expression pedal or two external footswitches to extend control.
Sound
The HX One stands out with a clean, precise, and dynamic reproduction: the attack remains clear, the response to playing is natural, and stereo effects breathe without muddying the signal. Depending on the chosen models, it can remain very transparent (ideal as a complement to a good amp) or, conversely, bring a true signature with lush modulations, deep delays, and reverbs that fill the space. It is regularly seen in modern and eclectic rigs, notably with renowned musicians and creators such as Mark Lettieri, Tim Pierce, Jamie Hince, Rhett Shull, or Zachary Cole Smith. A good indication of its vocation: a pedal versatile enough to go from a session context to a live set without sacrificing quality.
