The M 930/940/950 Series: Modern Precision, Compact Format
The M 940 belongs to a family of condenser microphones combining a "large diaphragm" capsule with state-of-the-art semiconductor circuits. Designed for professional and semi-professional users, it targets high-end results in a discreet metal body. Within the range, the M 940 stands out with its supercardioid pattern offering enhanced off-axis rejection. It is available in satin nickel or dark bronze finishes.
Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?
Ideal for vocals, voice-over, and dialogue, the M 940 also excels in close-miking of instruments (guitars, keyboards, percussion, drums, winds, and strings). Its precise capture and high side rejection make it a relevant choice for broadcasting, commercial studios, and demanding home studios.
Technology and Performance Dedicated to Sound
Large Diaphragm Capsule and Controlled Response
The condenser capsule offers a linear response with a slight presence boost between 7 and 11 kHz, delivering a clear and detailed yet natural sound. The supercardioid pattern ensures strong rejection of unwanted side signals.
Optimized Electronics, Minimal Noise
The new impedance converter drastically reduces background noise while increasing maximum output level. The result: a "crystalline" sound without audible distortion and remarkable RF immunity. Power is supplied via 48 V phantom in compliance with DIN and IEC standards.
Anti-Vibration Construction and Ergonomics
The capsule and electronics are decoupled by an internal suspension to limit structure-borne noise. The MH 93.1 stand mount can be replaced by the elastic suspension EH 93 in critical conditions. The 3-pin XLR output with gold-plated contacts ensures a reliable and durable connection.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Microtech Gefell M930-XY suitable for singing and voice-over?
Its supercardioid pattern and sensitivity of 23 mV/Pa are suitable for singing, voice-over, and dialogue. The frequency response from 40 Hz to 18 kHz includes a slight presence boost between 7 and 11 kHz.
What power supply is required for this studio microphone?
A P48 phantom power supply compliant with DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15 standards is required. The current consumption is 3.6 mA, and the connection is via a gold-plated 3-pin XLR.
Can the M 940 handle high sound pressure levels?
The maximum acoustic pressure level reaches 141 dB SPL with total harmonic distortion below 0.5%. Its electronic dynamic range is 135 dB.
Which polar pattern is best for recording with fewer side sounds?
The large diaphragm capsule features a supercardioid pattern, providing strong off-axis rejection on the sides. This setup is suitable for close miking of guitar, percussion, wind instruments, or strings.
Which mounts are compatible with this microphone?
The MH 93.1 stand mount is compatible with this microphone. An EH 93 elastic suspension can replace it to further reduce handling noise. Internal decoupling of the capsule and electronics also helps minimize vibrations.
