A classic "octave-up fuzz" revisited in MXR format

The MXR M267 Octavio belongs to the great lineage of octave-up fuzzes born in the late 60s, designed to transform a simple guitar into a blazing lead machine. Here, the idea is simple: to recapture that unique blend of harmonically rich fuzz and octave-up that gives a "spaceship" vibe, almost ring-mod-like at times, while maintaining a modern and reliable approach for both stage and studio.

Who is the MXR Octavio for, and in which styles does it excel?

This pedal is tailored for guitarists seeking a characterful effect: fans of psychedelic, classic rock, stoner, garage, aggressive blues rock, but also anyone who loves "synth-like" textures for monophonic lines. It particularly shines in solos, on upper-neck riffs, and on parts where you want to "cut through the mix" without adding excessive volume.

In live settings, the Octavio is formidable for coloring a chorus or a break with an immediately recognizable signature. In the studio, it becomes a creative tool: doubling a melody, textured overdubs, or layers of abrasive fuzz reminiscent of certain vintage synth sounds.

A minimalist interface designed for playing rather than tweaking

MXR gets straight to the point: two knobs, one footswitch, and you're good to go. The Output control adjusts the overall output level, handy for balancing your volume between clean and effect sounds, or pushing an already warmed-up amp. The Fuzz control sets the saturation intensity: at low settings, you get a tight and articulate grain; turning it up, the pedal shifts to a thicker, more compressed fuzz with a very pronounced sustain and "singing" feel.

The true bypass switching preserves your signal when the effect is off, and the status LED makes stage use clear. All housed in a metal chassis in MXR format: compact, sturdy, and ready to withstand rehearsals and tours.

The sound

The MXR M267 Octavio delivers a fuzz with a sharp and distinctive character, with that extra soul only an "octave-up" circuit can provide: a higher harmonic that reveals itself depending on your playing, your pickup, and your position on the neck. On notes played high up the register, the octave emerges with almost vocal precision; on chords, the effect becomes wilder and more textured, perfect for abrasive pads or deliberately chaotic attacks.

Its silicon brings a crisp attack and modern bite while retaining an organic feel: lower your guitar volume to partially clean up, then raise it back to instantly regain dense saturation and the incandescent "synth" vibe. If you love screaming leads, clinging harmonics, and psychedelic textures, the Octavio is a sonic weapon as simple as it is addictive.
