A "studio/rack" echo in an MXR pedal: the spirit of the '60s to '80s

The MXR Joshua Ambient Echo is designed as a bridge between the psychedelic echoes of the 1960s, the more structured delays of the 1970s, and the wider textures that characterized '80s productions. Where once it was necessary to stack rack processors and complex effect chains, the Joshua condenses this approach into a robust and pedalboard-friendly enclosure. Its identity is based on a multi-echo capable of remaining musical both rhythmically and in ambient settings, with a "Voice" section that adds an airy pad-like dimension to transform a simple delay into a true atmospheric instrument.

Who is the Joshua Ambient Echo for, and in which styles does it excel?

The Joshua is aimed equally at guitarists who want a simple and precise delay and sound designers seeking pads and movement. In rock and pop, it allows for clean, tight repeats suited for dotted eighth-note patterns and well-defined pick rhythms. In ambient, post-rock, and shoegaze, the "Voice" setting and the ability to stack echoes open the door to long tails, floating chords, and textures that fill the space without drowning the attack. In the studio, it integrates easily to broaden a guitar/vocal pair or add depth to a lead part; live, the tap tempo and subdivisions make transitions reliable even when the tempo shifts.
