Black Fountain V3: The Modernized "Oil Can Delay" Spirit for the Pedalboard

The Black Fountain has become a benchmark at Old Blood Noise Endeavors for a simple reason: it revives a unique type of delay. The old "oil can" delays circulated the signal through real oil to generate surprisingly warm, unstable, and lively repeats, with a natural modulation that is hard to reproduce with more conventional delays.

With the Black Fountain V3, the idea remains the same, but the experience is designed for today's musician: more direct controls, foot tempo management, and greater control over the shape of the repeats. The result: a delay pedal inspired by vintage gear, yet perfectly at ease on a modern pedalboard, from studio to stage.

Who Is It For? A Creative Delay for Texture Lovers, from Modern Blues to Ambient

This pedal is aimed at guitarists (and more broadly instrumentalists) who want an expressive delay capable of going beyond clean and predictable echoes. If you like repeats that thicken, subtly undulate, and add real substance behind your playing, the Black Fountain V3 is made for you.

In blues and rock, it brings an immediately musical depth, ideal for singing leads or breathing rhythms. In indie, shoegaze, and ambient, it becomes a sound design tool: modulation, pads, textured trails, and near self-oscillation effects. Live, its tap tempo and subdivisions facilitate integration into a click or drummer-based set while maintaining a very organic character.

Controls, Modes, and Features: From Precise Delay to Controlled Chaos

The Black Fountain V3 offers a simple-to-use approach but deep enough to sculpt your sound. Its four main controls Fluid, Mix, Time, and Feedback cover the essentials: the color and movement of repeats, wet/dry balance, delay time, and number of repeats.

The tap tempo allows you to set the tempo "on the fly" with two presses. To stay perfectly in sync with the song, you can then subdivide the tempo into quarter notes, eighth notes, or triplets: handy for switching from a subtle delay that supports the groove to a more rhythmic pattern-based playing.

For moments when you want to push the pedal to its limits, a hidden feature allows, by holding down the Tap control, to momentarily maximize the feedback. This is ideal for creating an intensity peak, a controlled build-up, or an ending phrase that transforms into an almost "instrumental" texture without having to adjust the settings.

Finally, the expression input opens the door to smooth transitions: you can control Time, Feedback, or both simultaneously. In practice, this enables delay speed-ups/slow-downs, progressive repeat build-ups, or very musical texture morphings, particularly effective in post-rock, ambient, and experimental music.

Sound Signature

The Black Fountain V3 stands out with a warm and modulated sonic signature, with a sense of movement that brings repeats to life. Where a very transparent digital delay faithfully reproduces the signal, here the repeats have personality : they round off, color, and can gain a slight "murky" quality reminiscent of vintage circuits and mechanics.

Depending on the chosen mode (Modern, Organ, Vintage ), you can go from a cleaner, more versatile sound to thicker, more pronounced textures, perfect for creating a dense harmonic background. The dynamics remain very pleasant: the pedal responds well to playing nuances and easily finds its place before or after an overdrive, in an effects loop, or at the end of the chain to maximize spaciousness.
