A Classic "TS808"... in a Completely New Format
The Cicada is directly inspired by the famous Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer, a benchmark for pushing an amp, tightening a high-gain sound, or adding that famous presence in the mix. Olinthus captures this signature and "compresses" it into a tiny chassis, maintaining the spirit of the circuit (soft-clipping and mid emphasis) while rethinking ergonomics and pedalboard integration.
Who Is It For, Which Styles, and In What Contexts?
The Cicada is aimed at guitarists (from beginners to advanced) who want a simple, musical, and immediately usable overdrive. Ideal for blues/rock to thicken a clean tone, pop/funk to add presence without masking attack, and hard rock/metal as a boost in front of distortion to gain precision. Its size also makes it formidable in mobile setups, both live and in the studio, when every centimeter of pedalboard space counts.

Questions frequently asked
What power supply is needed for the Cicada?
The power supply requires 9 V DC with a negative center, not exceeding 9 V DC. A minimum capacity of 50 mA is necessary, and the power supply is not included.
How to connect this pedal on a pedalboard?
The connection uses a single TRRS jack combining input, output, and power. A TRRS breakout cable is provided to separate these connections. The mono input on a 6.35 mm jack has a high impedance of 500 kOhms.
What kind of sound does this overdrive produce?
Its analog architecture with soft-clipping on one stage, with filtering before and after the gain, produces a smooth saturation and midrange boost. The Drive, Tone, and Level controls allow adjusting gain, brightness, and output level. This signature is especially suited to fatten a clean tone or tighten a high-gain distortion.
Is the Cicada suitable for compact pedalboards?
With only 45 × 30 × 22 mm and 30 g, it uses its entire underside as a hinged switch.
What type of bypass is used?
The bypass is a buffered bypass. It is integrated into this analog pedal intended for electric guitar.
