A Modern Tribute to the Foxx Tone Machine
The Fur Coat captures the spirit of a cult 70s fuzz: the Foxx Tone Machine. It delivers that "woolly" grain (thick, raspy, lively) and a very organic response to guitar volume. Orange didn't just make a simple replica: the brand added a more "pedalboard friendly" approach with an active EQ and an adjustable upper octave section, covering both retro textures and sharper, more contemporary sounds.
For Which Guitarists and Styles?
The Orange Fur Coat is aimed at guitarists seeking a true fuzz character without compromise: from dirty garage and blues rock to stoner, doom, punk, hard rock, and psychedelic styles. In the studio, it thickens rhythm takes and helps solos cut through the mix with an aggressive octave. Live, it naturally fits on a big-sound pedalboard, with excellent responsiveness to playing dynamics and guitar volume/tone settings.
Like many "old-school" fuzzes, it performs best directly after the guitar (before buffers), but it can also be placed further down the chain for a more biting, "distorted," and tense fuzz.

Questions frequently asked
What power supply should be used with the Orange Amps Fur Coat?
The accepted power supply ranges from 9 V DC to 12 V DC, with negative center and 2.1 mm plug. The current draw is 3 mA at 9 V and 5 mA at 12 V. Operation on a 9 V battery is also supported.
Is the upper octave adjustable?
An Octave potentiometer allows adjusting the level of the upper octave, from a subtle harmonic reinforcement to a very prominent effect. A second footswitch activates this section independently from the fuzz.
What sound does this Orange fuzz produce?
The analog circuit delivers a thick and gritty tone inspired by the 1970s Foxx Tone Machine. The active EQ balances the lows and highs, while the upper octave enhances psychedelic or stoner leads. The guitar’s volume response maintains expressive dynamics.
Where should this fuzz be placed on a pedalboard?
To preserve the typical response of a vintage fuzz, placement directly after the guitar and before buffers is recommended. Placing it further down the chain produces a more biting and tight sound.
Is the Fur Coat suitable for stoner and doom genres?
This pedal is suitable for stoner, doom, punk, hard rock, garage, and blues rock styles thanks to its generous low end and natural compression. Its dimensions are 95 x 65 x 130 mm weighing 462 g.
