A Silver Sky at the Crossroads of Vintage and PRS Craftsmanship
Born from a close collaboration between John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, the PRS Silver Sky was developed to capture the spirit of early 60s single-coil solidbodies while bringing PRS manufacturing precision. Reversed headstock details, PRS-designed steel vibrato bridge, ergonomics, and meticulous finishes: everything is designed to evoke familiar sensations, with a stable, consistent guitar ready to withstand concerts and sessions alike.
For Which Guitarists and Styles?
The Silver Sky is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists seeking an expressive and dynamic electric guitar, ideal for working on touch and nuances. It excels in blues, pop, funk, vintage rock, indie, and any genre where clear, detailed tones, punchy crunches, and great attack response are desired. Its vibrato and ergonomics also make it an excellent stage guitar, capable of shifting from tight rhythmic playing to singing leads.
Sound
With its alder body and bolt-on maple neck, the Silver Sky offers a crisp attack, good definition, and a natural balance across the spectrum. The 3 single-coil 635JM pickups provide that characteristic single-coil tone: quick response, present mids, and "bright but musical" trebles. The 5-position selector covers a wide range of tones, from sculpted cleans to scooped intermediate positions, up to rounder lead sounds. The PRS steel vibrato, combined with better contact with the body, contributes to a resonant and lively guitar, with a perceptible acoustic feel that translates into amplification.
