A Rickenbacker Short Scale Designed as a Contemporary Signature
With the 4030S, Rickenbacker revisits its identity by adapting it to the short scale format without sacrificing the character that made the brand famous. This approach, developed with Jesse F. Keeler (Death From Above 1979), aims for a clear balance: maintaining a sharp attack and solid low end while gaining comfort and speed in playing. The "MapleGlo" finish highlights the maple and emphasizes the timeless look, both understated and instantly recognizable.
For Which Bassists and Styles?
The Rickenbacker 4030S is aimed at beginner to advanced bassists who want an expressive electric bass that is easy to play and responsive. The short scale favors more comfortable stretches, fast runs, slides, and natural vibrato, while maintaining excellent definition. It is particularly well-suited for rock, indie, punk, pop, and funk, with clear articulation for fingerstyle as well as a biting attack with a pick.
Sound Characteristics
The maple body provides a precise attack, clear projection, and excellent clarity, while the through-neck construction enhances vibrational continuity for long and consistent sustain. The walnut integrated into the neck adds rigidity and stability, and the rosewood fingerboard balances everything by slightly softening the upper spectrum with rich mids. The two Hot Toaster Top pickups deliver a very clear punch, capable of ranging from a tight growl to warm lows, with dynamics that remain controlled in a dense mix.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
For comfortable daily use, you can pair it with a wide strap (about 7 to 10 cm), a clip-on tuner, a good quality 6.35 mm instrument cable, and a universal floor stand for electric bass. These accessories are compatible with a standard electric bass and facilitate transport, tuning, and setup.
