The Roland FR-4x belongs to the V-Accordion family, designed to modernize the accordion without compromising its identity. This model draws on much of the sound power and ergonomic design of the prestigious FR-8x, in a more accessible, lighter and easier-to-transport format. It is equally suited to traditional accordionists looking to expand their sonic palette and stage musicians seeking a versatile, headphone-silent instrument that can be used immediately through a PA system.

Keyboard design

The FR-4x features a configuration that remains faithful to accordionists' playing habits, with a right-hand keyboard featuring 37 velocity-sensitive keys and a left-hand section with 120 buttons. The bellows response is one of its strengths, thanks to a responsive pressure-detection circuit that accurately reproduces variations in attack and intensity. Roland has also added a bellows resistance regulator, which is useful for adjusting the inertia to suit your touch, playing style and repertoire. The overall design remains compact, lightweight and reassuring for musicians accustomed to a high-quality acoustic accordion.

Sound quality

The FR-4x's sound engine is taken directly from the FR-8x, enabling it to offer an impressive wealth of tones for an accordion in this category. You get 100 accordion sound sets, including 67 preloaded sets, covering a wide range of styles from musette to international sounds such as Bayan. In addition, there are 162 orchestral sounds, 32 organ sounds and 3 drum kits, opening up a world of possibilities for pop, stage performance, accompaniment and creative work. The built-in amplification system, consisting of two speakers and a tweeter, delivers a full, balanced sound, ideal for practicing without external equipment or playing in smaller settings.
