A "power" model in the MD range

Designed to carry the voice on stage effortlessly, the Sennheiser MD 445 stands as a performance-oriented reference within the MD series. Sennheiser presents it as the most "powerful" model in the series, with a clear focus on demanding live environments: generous backline, wedge or side fill monitors, and stages where the voice must remain front and center. Compared to the MD 435, described as softer, the MD 445 claims a more assertive character to achieve a sense of proximity and authority in the mix.

For which singers and stages?

The MD 445 is primarily aimed at vocalists (lead, backing vocals, spoken word) performing on stages where ambient sound levels complicate intelligibility: prominent drums, guitar amps, brass instruments, or very dense lineups. Its tight directivity helps keep the voice "in front," while limiting instrument bleed, which facilitates mixing and improves sound consistency from show to show.

It is also an excellent choice if you are looking for an anti-feedback vocal microphone for strong stage monitors: the better the isolation, the higher you can raise the vocal level before the system starts to feedback. The result: a more stable, controlled voice with fewer drastic EQ corrections.

Sound design and technologies serving live performance

Supercardioid pattern: isolation and feedback control

Thanks to its supercardioid pattern with high rejection, the MD 445 primarily picks up what is in front of the capsule, further reducing side sounds. This approach is particularly effective when the microphone must coexist with powerful monitors and close sources while maintaining focused vocal capture. In practice, this translates to a very comfortable gain before feedback and a voice that remains solid in the mix.

Large dynamic diaphragm and aluminum-copper coil: precise attack

The MD 445 is a large diaphragm dynamic microphone designed to deliver a direct, high-resolution sound. It features a lightweight aluminum-copper coil that promotes excellent transient response: consonant attacks, controlled breathing, and intensity variations are rendered with finesse without sacrificing density. The result aims for a balance between detail and body, with intense mids and lows to give presence to vocals.

High SPL handling: loud stages, confident vocals

When instruments take up space, a microphone must handle it. The MD 445 supports very high sound pressure levels while maintaining a wide dynamic range. This allows for energetic performances (powerful singing, close proximity, distance variations) with a feeling of stability and headroom, useful both in concerts and rehearsals or live recordings.

Durability and user comfort

Designed for touring, the all-metal housing inspires confidence. The suspended capsule helps reduce handling noise, improving comfort for singers who move around, frequently change grip, or alternate between handheld and stand-mounted use. A compensation coil protects the signal against electromagnetic interference, a plus on stages crowded with power supplies, lighting, and wireless transmissions.
