An "NYC Bass" Signature Designed for High-End Basses
The NYCB-4S kit belongs to Seymour Duncan's NYC Bass family, originally developed to meet the demands of top-tier custom basses. The goal is clear: retain the organic character of a passive pickup while providing more body, definition, and flexibility than a standard wiring.
For Which Bassists and Styles?
This kit is aimed at 4-string bassists who want to cover multiple sonic territories without changing basses: vintage groove, modern precision, or denser sounds for live performance. Thanks to its dual coil design and wiring options, it suits both studio contexts (cleanliness, clarity, level of detail) and stage settings where impact and solid foundation are sought, from funk to rock, including pop and jazz.
Three Tonal Personalities Thanks to the 4-Conductor Cable
The NYCB-4S combines a dual coil (J-type) architecture with Alnico II magnets for a natural midrange, smooth attack, and strong presence in the mix. The shielded 4-conductor cable allows multiple modes: series for maximum power and thickness, parallel for a more open and defined sound, and split for a more "vintage" tone. An excellent choice if you like to sculpt your sound via your instrument's electronics (mini-switch, push/pull, etc.).

Questions frequently asked
Is the NYCB-4S kit compatible with a 4-string bass?
This model is designed for 4-string basses and includes a neck pickup as well as a bridge pickup.
What routing size is required for these pickups?
The size corresponds to an EMG 35 style soapbar. The indicated routing is the manufacturer's standard DC40.
Can the pickups be wired in series, parallel, or split?

What magnets are used in this Seymour Duncan bass kit?
Alnico II magnets are used with a double coil J-style construction, offering a smooth attack and natural upper mids.
What are the resistance values of the neck and bridge pickups?
