An Active Soapbar Designed for Modern Basses and Demanding Setups
The Seymour Duncan ASB-6s embodies the spirit of soapbar pickups: a sleek aesthetic, easy integration on many instruments, and a performance-focused approach. With its active design, it aims for a more consistent output and controlled dynamics, especially appreciated when transitioning from soft playing to strong attacks, or when alternating between slap, pick, and fingerstyle.
Who Is It For and What For?
This active 6-string soapbar kit is intended for bassists (and more broadly musicians on compatible 6-string instruments) seeking a modern, precise, and easily shaped sound. It suits styles requiring a solid foundation (rock, metal, prog) as well as contexts where clarity is paramount (gospel, fusion, pop). If you want to gain definition in the lows and stand out better in a dense mix, an active pickup of this type is a coherent choice.
What Makes the Difference: Attack, Clarity, and Control
The active technology of the ASB-6s is designed to provide a stable signal and uniform response across all strings, a key point on 6-string instruments. The output remains articulate, with a crisp attack and a sense of precision that highlights playing nuances. On stage, this approach helps maintain a consistent sound from song to song, while in the studio it facilitates obtaining a clean and usable take, even with more advanced EQ settings.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Seymour Duncan ASB-6s compatible with a 6-string bass?
This kit is specifically designed for 6-string basses and features a 6-string Soapbar format. However, mounting compatibility depends on the dimensions of the instrument's existing cavity.
What type of electronics does this soapbar kit use?
The electronics are active and use ceramic magnets. Therefore, a power supply compatible with an active system is required for operation.
Does the kit include a neck pickup and a bridge pickup?
The configuration covers both neck and bridge positions. It consists of two humbucker pickups, each with two conductors.
What sound can be expected from ceramic active pickups for a 6-string bass?
The active design aims for a consistent signal across the six strings with a sharp attack. The output is described as articulate, to preserve bass definition in a dense mix. This setup is suitable for techniques such as slap, pick playing, or fingerstyle.
What is the finish of the ASB-6s?
The finish is black, consistent with the Seymour Duncan ASB-6s model.
