The essentials to know about the Marcus Miller V7 Alder-4 bass

  • Flagship model inspired by the "Marcus Miller Jazz Type" format: fast attack, immediate groove, and timeless look.

  • Efficient luthiery: North American alder body and hard maple neck, for a balance between punch, clarity, and comfort.

  • Modern and versatile electronics: Marcus Miller Super-J Revolution pickup set and Marcus Heritage-3 preamp with mid frequency control.

  • Comfortable playability: 241 mm / 9.49" radius, 38 mm / 1.50" bone nut, and a C-shaped neck profile designed for both fast runs and deep lines.

A V7 designed as a showcase for the Marcus Miller sound

Positioned as an iconic model of the brand, the V7 is designed to capture the sonic DNA associated with Marcus Miller: a firm low register, precise mids, and presence that cuts through the mix. The V7 Alder-4 follows the codes of the classic "Jazz Type" while adding a more contemporary approach thanks to full active electronics and selected components, including a Marcus Miller Modern-S bridge. The result: a 4-string electric bass that feels familiar in hand yet very modern in its tonal palette.

Who is the V7 Alder-4 for?

The Marcus Miller V7 Alder-4 targets the intermediate to advanced bassist seeking a versatile and expressive bass capable of delivering in rehearsal, studio, or on stage. The "Jazz Type" format naturally suits funk and slap (attack and articulation), but it is equally comfortable in pop, rock, neo-soul, jazz, or gospel thanks to its extensive controls. The neck comfort and intuitive access to controls also encourage long sessions, whether you play fingerstyle, with a pick, or hybrid.

Tonal character: alder, maple, and Marcus Miller electronics

The alder body provides a balanced response, with rounded lows and natural mids that remain clear in a band setting. Combined with the hard maple neck, you get a sharper attack and a clear high end, ideal for bringing out ghost notes, percussive lines, and harmonics. The Marcus Miller Super-J Revolution pickup set is calibrated to deliver the expected "J-Bass" grain: definition, dynamics, and a "singing" quality when the trebles are opened up.

On the electronics side, the Marcus Heritage-3 preamp with mid frequency control is a real customization lever: scoop for modern slap, boost mids to stand out in a rock mix, or soften for rounder lines. The control section Volume / Tone / Blender / Treble / Middle / Bass gives direct access to the instrument's character, and the passive mode (P/P) allows for a more organic response, useful for vintage tones, more subdued studio takes, or simply playing "old school" with lots of right-hand nuance.

Recommended compatible accessories

To fully exploit this 4-string bass, you can opt for a 4-string long scale bass string set (34"), suited to the 860 mm / 33.86" scale length. A strap and a 6.35 mm instrument jack cable naturally complete the gear for stage and rehearsal.
