The Essentials to Know About the V7 Alder-5 New Gen "D Forest" Bass

  • Flagship model inspired by the Marcus Miller sound: a 5-string Jazz Type designed for slap, fingerstyle, and modern grooves.

  • North American alder body: balance, punchy mids, and firm lows, ideal for cutting through a mix.

  • Hard maple neck with C profile: quick playability, clear attack, and a "modern" feel under the left hand.

  • Complete Marcus Miller electronics: Super-J Revolution pickups + Marcus Heritage-3 preamp with passive mode (push/pull) to switch from vintage to contemporary tones.

A V7 New Gen: the iconic Jazz Type at the top of the range

Presented as the brand's flagship model, the V7 Alder-5 New Gen embodies the "Marcus Miller Jazz Type" DNA: a bass with a familiar look and solid fundamentals, enhanced with modern electronics and hardware designed for the stage. This 5-string version emphasizes versatility, with a sonic identity capable of covering snapping funk, precise pop, deep RnB, and more current contexts where the low B string becomes essential.

For which bassists and styles?

Thanks to its 5-string format and flexible preamp, this V7 is especially aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want an instrument capable of withstanding rehearsals, sessions, and live performances while remaining comfortable. The C-profile and modern radius promote clean and fast playing, both in fingerstyle and slap. It is comfortable in funk, fusion, gospel, pop, modern rock, neo-soul, and urban music, with the option to revert to more "old school" tones via the passive mode.

Alder, maple, and Super-J Revolution: clarity, attack, and tonal palette width

The alder body delivers a very musical balance: present mids (perfect for defining the line), controlled lows, and a consistent response across the entire range, which is valuable on a 5-string. The hard maple neck enhances attack and precision, giving an "immediate" feel to the touch, with clear note articulation, useful for ghost notes, fast runs, and pick playing.

On the electronics side, the Marcus Miller Super-J Revolution pickup set targets a modern Jazz Type signature: definition, dynamics, and grain, with excellent mixing potential via the Blender (pickup blend) and the EQ section. The Marcus Heritage-3 preamp adds headroom and shaping capability, with a mid-frequency control that allows adapting the bass to the amp, cabinet, or context (scooped mids for a more "hi-fi" slap, boosted mids for a more present and singing sound). Finally, the push/pull for passive mode is a real asset: you keep a direct, organic, and reassuring option if you seek a more traditional response or a backup plan on stage.
