A controller born from SPL's "120V" philosophy and mastering demands
The MC16 embodies SPL's approach aimed at the highest possible analog audio quality, based on very high internal voltage. This philosophy was developed in the 1990s by Wolfgang Neumann (founder and designer of SPL) and took shape in iconic systems in the early 2000s. The MC16 carries this "premium" DNA into modern multichannel monitoring, where balance precision, image stability, and dynamic range are essential.
Who the SPL MC16 is for: mastering, post-production, and immersive studios
The SPL MC16 is intended for studios working in surround and immersive audio who want to maintain a 100% analog monitoring path to avoid the compromises of digital volume control (resolution, dynamics). It is particularly suited for mastering, post-production, and sound design environments where quick switching between systems (5.1, 7.1.4, 9.1.6, 11.1...) is required while keeping clear speaker identification.
Speaker control, presets, and level: ergonomics dedicated to large systems
16 buttons to activate speakers with clear identification
The MC16 provides sixteen buttons to directly activate the corresponding loudspeakers. Each button accepts the insertion of a label to display the exact speaker name (front, rear, top, LFE, etc.). The result: fast, clear, and reassuring operation when channels multiply.
2 x 16 channel inputs: instant A/B between your mix and a reference
Two input banks, Input 1 and Input 2 (each 16 channels), allow you to compare a current project with a reference production in one gesture. The 16 channels of each input are routed directly to the outputs, so the routing defined in your DAW remains perfectly aligned with the controller. This is a key point to secure Dolby Atmos sessions or any immersive workflow where mapping consistency is critical.
Analog monitoring volume: fine control without digital compromise
The monitoring level is controlled by an analog potentiometer developed for 16-channel management, to keep volume control in the analog domain. This approach avoids the typical limitations of digital control (loss of resolution at low levels, restricted dynamics) and preserves a smooth listening sensation, particularly useful for judging micro-details and image depth.
Configuration presets: quick recall of layouts
The MC16 allows saving speaker configurations in three memory slots (for example 5.1, 11.1, 9.1.6) to instantly recall a layout. In Solo mode, three additional memories become available with the same buttons, handy for creating solo groups (all front speakers, all ceiling speakers, all rear speakers) and speeding up compliance and translation checks.
120V technology: headroom, dynamics, and "stress-free" listening
SPL 120V technology operates with an internal audio operating voltage of +/- 60 V. To support this level, SPL uses proprietary operational amplifiers SPL 120V SUPRA, designed to operate at these voltages where standard components would be exceeded. Listening-wise, the goal is a reproduction rich in detail, a stable image, and a constant sense of headroom, while maintaining a "relaxed" listening experience even during long sessions.

Questions frequently asked
Is the SPL MC16 suitable for Dolby Atmos monitoring and immersive formats?
This model handles 16 channels per bank and allows recalling three speaker configurations, such as 5.1, 9.1.6, or 11.1. In Solo mode, three additional memories are used to create speaker groups. Direct routing of the 16 channels to the outputs preserves the mapping defined in the DAW.
How to compare a mix to a reference with this controller?
Two Input banks 1 and 2 with 16 channels each allow immediate A/B switching between the project and a reference. Each bank is routed directly to the outputs.
Is the volume of the MC16 controlled in analog?
The listening level relies on an analog potentiometer dedicated to 16 channels, without digital volume control. The audio section operates at an internal voltage of +/- 60 V thanks to the SPL 120V SUPRA operational amplifiers.
What audio connectivity is available?
Analog inputs and outputs use balanced XLR and DB25 connectors. The input impedance is 20 kOhms and the output impedance is 75 Ohms.
Can each speaker be easily identified on the front panel?
Sixteen dedicated buttons individually activate the loudspeakers. Each button can be labeled to indicate the speaker position, for example front, rear, top, or LFE.
