Apollo x16: The "Line-Level" Flagship of the Apollo X Range, 2nd Generation

The Apollo x16 is aimed at studios that already have external preamps, console channels, summing mixers, or a large studio console and want a rack interface focused on essentials: lots of line inputs/outputs, top-tier conversion, and impeccable monitoring. This second generation pushes converter precision even further and strengthens the x16's "pro studio" orientation, especially for multichannel configurations and immersive mixing.

Within the range, the x16 remains the ideal solution when prioritizing Sub-D25 connectivity, clean rack integration, and a production environment where clock stability, level consistency, and monitoring reliability matter as much as sound quality.

Who and What: Hybrid Recording, Extensive Routing, and Surround Mixing

If you manage dense sessions (music for picture, post-production, live multitrack recording, electronic production with lots of outboard gear), the Apollo x16 is a solid foundation: it combines controlled latency, flexible routing, and real-time UAD processing. Its 1U 19-inch format fits easily into a rack while maintaining a true "studio" logic thanks to professional connectors (XLR for monitoring, Sub-D25 for lines, AES/EBU and Word Clock for sync).

It is also designed for studios wanting to deliver mixes that "translate" everywhere: the Apollo x16 integrates Apollo Monitor Correction (Sonarworks technology) to ensure reliable balance, EQ, and dynamics decisions, both in stereo and multichannel.

More Reliable Immersive Monitoring and a Smarter Console Workflow

Conversion and Clocking: Precision, Depth, Stability

The heart of the Apollo x16 is its 24-bit/192 kHz AD/DA conversion chain combined with Dual Crystal Clocking for low-jitter environments. The result: clearer transients, more stable stereo, and a more consistent sense of depth, especially appreciated when calibrating a mix or optimizing a mastering chain.

Apollo Monitor Correction and Multichannel Formats

The highlight of this generation is the combination of conversion with Apollo Monitor Correction powered by Sonarworks, to achieve a more neutral listening experience on your speakers or headphones. Practically, this reduces unpleasant surprises when moving from one studio to another and helps secure the consistency of a final mix, whether stereo, surround, or immersive.

On the immersive production side, the Apollo x16 allows building multichannel mixes up to 9.1.6 and creating 16-channel immersive audio sessions for configurations like Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D, or Sony 360 Reality Audio. For surround monitoring, the interface also supports formats up to 7.1 with speaker calibration and downmix, a key asset for quickly checking your versions' compatibility.

Console: Routing, Plug-in Scenes, and Bass Management

The UAD Console application bridges your studio and the internal mixing engine: routing management, plug-in inserts, monitoring, and creating a coherent working environment session after session. Modern production features like the bass manager, immersive sound support, and plug-in scenes speed up template setup and allow instant recall depending on the project.

By combining the HEXA Core DSP and your DAW's native processing, you get a powerful hybrid workflow: reserving real-time UAD processing for critical takes (vocals, instruments, buses) while keeping your computer's flexibility and processing power for everything else.

A System That Grows With Your Studio

The x16 is designed to scale: you can cascade up to four Thunderbolt-compatible Apollo interfaces to build a substantial conversion architecture, useful when working with large consoles or outboard racks. It can also coexist with other rack-mounted Thunderbolt Apollo interfaces and be controlled from the desk via an Apollo Twin or x4, simplifying daily use when the main interface is installed in a technical rack.
