A Microwave Heritage Revisited in Desktop Format
The Waldorf M stands as a deliberate homage to the Microwave DNA, combining the "classic" wavetable generation (Microwave I) and the more "modern" approach (Microwave II/XT) in a robust, performance-oriented desktop synthesizer. Its identity lies in this blend between the digital precision of wavetables and analog musicality, thanks to the 24 dB/oct low-pass filter with resonance and saturation, complemented by an analog stereo VCA.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
The Waldorf M is especially aimed at advanced musicians and sound designers who want to sculpt evolving timbres typical of wavetable synthesis, while retaining an analog response at the filter and amplification stages. Perfect in the studio for ambient, techno, synthwave, modern pop, or film scoring, it also proves very solid in live settings thanks to its 4-part multitimbrality, multiple outputs, and syncable arpeggiator.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Waldorf M support the Microwave I and Microwave II/XT modes?
The 2 wavetable oscillators feature Classic Microwave I and Modern Microwave II/XT modes. These modes alter the generation behavior and character of the wavetables.
What are the polyphony and multitimbrality?
Polyphony reaches 8 voices and multitimbrality handles 4 parts. Each part can be assigned to one of the 4 auxiliary stereo outputs.
Is the filter analog?
The filter section uses an analog SSI 2144 ladder-type low-pass filter with a 24 dB/octave slope and saturation. A stereo analog VCA is provided for each voice. Panning is available per voice.
Can user wavetables be loaded?
32 user slots are available for wavetables. The SD card slot allows loading and saving of sounds, banks, and user wavetables.
What MIDI and audio connections are available?
MIDI connectivity includes USB 2.0 as well as DIN In, Out, and Thru ports. Audio outputs consist of a main pair on unbalanced 6.3 mm jack and 4 auxiliary stereo outputs on balanced 6.3 mm TRS jacks.
