The Warwick RockBass series gets a makeover for 2024 with a clear ambition: to offer instruments inspired by the classics of the German brand, while remaining at a more affordable price point. This Alien 5 fully embodies this philosophy, retaining Warwick's DNA (ergonomics, component choices, sonic identity) in a modern acoustic bass, ready for the stage as well as home playing.

For whom, and in which styles?

With its 5-string acoustic format, this RockBass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want to play unplugged (light rehearsals, acoustic sessions, songwriting) while keeping the versatility of a fifth string. It feels at home in pop, folk, variety, jazz, and acoustic styles, and becomes a true stage tool once plugged in thanks to the Fishman pickup.

The sound

The solid maple top delivers a quick and clear response: the attack stands out distinctly, notes remain defined, and the instrument retains clarity-a valuable asset on a 5-string acoustic bass. The agathis back and sides contribute to a balanced foundation, with present lows and usable mids to properly "sit" the bass in an acoustic ensemble. The glued mahogany neck promotes a sense of continuity and natural sustain, while the Tigerstrip Ebony fingerboard enhances precision and articulation, particularly appreciated on the low B string. On the lutherie side, the wenge bridge with bone saddle helps transmit string energy to the top for a more direct projection. When plugged in, the bass relies on the Fishman Sonicore Pickup Soundhole to deliver a direct, coherent, and usable amplified sound.
