A Series Born from Yamaha's Expertise in Speaker Design
The CBR Series builds on Yamaha's experience in acoustics and speaker design across various formats. The goal is clear: to offer a passive range capable of delivering high power levels while maintaining refined sound definition, all in a practical, easy-to-handle enclosure. This approach combines rigorous material selection, audio component optimization, and design aimed at versatile use, both in mobile performances and fixed installations.
What Uses Are Yamaha CBR Speakers Designed For?
Designed to adapt to many contexts, the CBR speakers are suitable for both front-of-house sound systems and stage monitors. They meet the needs of bands, service providers, DJs, rehearsal rooms, places of worship, and small installations, whenever a reliable passive speaker is needed that is simple to wire and remains clear even at high volumes. Their wide dispersion also helps cover a listening area evenly, useful in spaces where the audience is not perfectly in front of the speakers.
Acoustic Design: Definition, Coverage, and High-Level Control
Optimized Transducers and Constant Directivity Horn
The CBR Series features custom-designed transducers optimized to achieve a balance between impact, clarity, and power handling. The low-inertia woofer aims for a tight and precise response, while the compression driver (2.5'' on the CBR15, 2'' on the CBR10 and CBR12) contributes to detailed reproduction and reduced distortion, even at high sound pressure levels.
The wide-dispersion constant directivity waveguide is designed to limit sound degradation when the listener is off to the sides. The result: more even coverage over a wide area, with better coherence toward the edges of the listening space.
Tweeter Protection: Play Loud, More Confidently
When a speaker is pushed beyond its limits, the risk of damage increases, especially in the high frequencies. The CBRs include a tweeter protection feature that limits excessive levels. This safeguard promotes stable performance and safer use during the most demanding moments, while maintaining clear and precise sound.
Stage Format and Integration: From Monitor to Fixed Installation
For wedge use, the enclosure has a 50-degree cut panel, convenient for angling the speaker toward the performer. The CBR12 and CBR15 models benefit from a symmetrical design allowing mirror-mode configuration, useful for creating a coherent stereo monitor system. For installations, M8 threaded insert points enable suspension with suitable solutions (mounting brackets or traditional eye bolts, not included).
Enclosure, Protection, and Handling
The compact plastic enclosure is designed to combine lightness, durability, and ease of transport. The front steel grille protects the transducers from impacts and contributes to longevity. Ergonomic handles improve grip, a real advantage for daily setups, teardowns, and frequent moves.
Simple and Efficient Connectivity
The connectivity includes a speakON connector and a 6.35mm Jack for quick setup, whether in a professional environment or more general use. This simplicity facilitates cabling on stage, in rehearsal, or in installation without complicating the audio chain.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Yamaha CBR12 be used as a stage monitor?
Its 50° beveled enclosure allows it to be used as a stage monitor. The symmetrical design also permits mirror mounting to create a pair of stereo monitors.
What connectivity options are available on this passive speaker?
The connectivity includes a speakON input and a 6.35 mm jack for direct wiring with suitable connectors.
Can it be suspended in a permanent installation?
M8 threaded inserts are provided for mounting with compatible brackets or traditional eye bolts, which are not included. The installation must use appropriate fixing solutions.
How is the sound dispersion on the sides?
The constant directivity waveguide ensures wide dispersion. The coverage remains more even towards the edges of the listening area, thanks to this horn design.
Is the tweeter protected at high volume?
A tweeter protection feature limits excessive levels in the high frequencies. The 2-inch compression driver of the CBR12 contributes to detailed reproduction with reduced distortion at high levels. The steel front grille protects the drivers against impact.
