CLP-865GP: The "GP" Approach Within the Clavinova CLP Series
The Yamaha CLP-865GP belongs to the Clavinova CLP series, renowned for prioritizing piano playing: expressive touch, wide dynamics, and acoustic-like sensations. The "GP" variant takes the experience further with a cabinet styled as a compact grand piano, ideal for those seeking an elegant visual presence without sacrificing the advantages of digital: headphone play, recording, sound versatility, and easy integration into a connected environment.
Keyboard Design
Featuring the GrandTouch-S 88-key keyboard, the CLP-865GP aims for fine control over attack and repetition, essential for classical repertoire as well as modern playing. The linear graded action naturally distributes resistance (heavier in the bass, lighter in the treble), while the escapement replicates the subtle sensation felt on a grand piano during delicate playing. Counterweights (on certain keys) stabilize the response and help maintain consistent control at low velocity. Finally, the white keys finished in synthetic ebony and ivory provide a reassuring touch, and the adjustable sensitivity (Soft2 to Hard2 plus a fixed mode) allows you to tailor the keyboard to your technique.
Sound Quality
The CLP-865GP puts the piano at the center: Yamaha CFX for bright projection and strong presence, Bösendorfer Imperial for a deeper, singing tone. With headphones, binaural sampling enhances the sense of space and realism, as if the instrument were playing right in front of you. The VRM (Virtual Resonance Modeling) adds the expected harmonic complexity (string resonances, interactions, depth), complemented by the grand piano expression modeling which highlights micro-variations in your touch. To vary styles, you also have access to a bank of 53 voices, 480 XG voices, and 14 percussion/SFX kits, all supported by a 256-note polyphony to play with pedal and layering without cutoffs.
Built-in Effects
Reverb (customizable settings) to place the piano in a credible space and add depth.
Chorus (customizable settings) to widen certain timbres and thicken layers in Dual mode.
Brilliance (customizable settings) to adjust attack and clarity according to your room, headphones, or style.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Yamaha CLP-865GP have a heavy touch similar to a grand piano?
The 88-key GrandTouch-S keyboard combines a linear graded hammer mechanism, escapement, and counterweights on certain keys. The synthetic ebony and ivory surfaces complete this touch, adjustable across 6 levels from Soft2 to Hard2, with a fixed mode.

Can two people play using headphones simultaneously?
Two headphone outputs allow simultaneous listening for a duet or a lesson session, with binaural sampling applied to the piano sounds.
How to record a performance on this digital piano?
It is possible to make 16-track MIDI recordings, with memory for up to 250 songs. CD-quality WAV audio recording can reach 80 minutes per song on a USB flash drive. The USB TO HOST and USB TO DEVICE ports are used respectively for computer connection and USB file management.
What are the dimensions and weight of the white piano?
The compact grand piano-style cabinet measures 1,400 × 1,146 × 932 mm and weighs 106 kg. Its matte white finish includes a GrandTouch three-pedal unit, featuring a progressive damper pedal.
