Woodline "Global": The Bacchus Spirit, Made in Indonesia

The WL4-STD/RSM WH belongs to Bacchus' Global series, designed to offer the Woodline DNA with controlled and accessible manufacturing, without sacrificing important technical choices. Here we find a recipe oriented towards the "musician's instrument": simple and effective luthiery, a roasted maple (RSM) neck, and passive Jazz Bass-style electronics, enhanced by a Turbo Switch to broaden possibilities without complicating handling.

A Versatile 4-String Bass for Stage, Rehearsal, and Home Studio

With its TYPE S format and JB pickup configuration, this Bacchus is aimed both at the serious beginner bassist and the intermediate player seeking a reliable and expressive 4-string. The two volume controls allow fine blending of each pickup to quickly find the right balance: round and deep tone from the neck pickup, sharper attack from the bridge pickup, or a mix of both for a versatile sound.

It feels at home in styles where definition matters: pop, funk, rock, indie, jazz, R&B, and any context where you want a bass that "speaks" in the mix. The pull-up Turbo is especially useful when you need more presence or density without changing amp settings: a real plus for moving from a subdued verse to a more energetic chorus.

Sound: JB-Type Clarity, Clear Attack, and Enhanced Sustain

The WL4-STD/RSM WH is based on a "JB"-style sonic foundation: two single-coil pickups with detailed output, capable of delivering clean lows, expressive mids, and precise highs. Adjusting the 2 volume controls shifts from a broad low end (neck pickup) to a more "biting" definition (bridge pickup). The tone control then allows rounding off the high frequencies for a more vintage feel or leaving the highs open for a snappier slap sound.

The choice of a roasted maple neck also influences the feel: notes start quickly with a crisp attack and a noticeable stability appreciated in daily playing. Regarding hardware, the JB bridge equipped with brass saddles provides a solid foundation under the right hand and contributes to consistent sustain. Finally, the Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut helps maintain stable intonation and smooth string bending, particularly useful if you do light bends, strong palm-muting, or occasional tuning changes.

The Turbo Switch (push/pull) adds a character option: depending on settings, it delivers a denser signal and increased presence, handy for standing out in a busy mix or thickening a fingerstyle bass line. It remains a simple and musical approach: keeping the passive and organic spirit, with an immediate "plan B" at your fingertips.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To stay true to the original setup, a 4-string long scale bass string set 45-105 is the safest choice. You can also prepare a good quality 6.35 mm / 1/4" jack cable and a comfortable strap, especially useful for rehearsals and stage use.
