A modern BOSS solution for amp sound... without an amp
With the IR-2, BOSS focuses on consistency: achieving a credible and reproducible amp sound from one location to another, without relying on a microphone, room acoustics, or unpredictable backline. The 11 amp types cover major sound families, from American cleans to modern saturations, based on impulse responses of cabinets selected for immediate and musical results.
Who is it for, and which styles?
The BOSS IR-2 is aimed at guitarists who play live (through the PA), record in a home studio, or want a compact pedalboard ready to plug in. It suits blues and rock sounds (dynamic crunches) as well as hard rock and metal genres (tighter, more defined gain). Whether rehearsing or at home, the headphone output allows practicing touch and settings silently.

Questions frequently asked
Does the BOSS IR-2 allow playing directly through a PA system or headphones?
The headphone output enables silent practice, while the amp and cabinet simulation provides a sound suitable for direct use. The 11 amp types each include a selected cabinet response, ranging from 1x12 to 4x12.
What amp sounds are available on the IR-2?
The TWN, TWEED, DIAMOND, and BRIT models notably cover references such as the Fender Twin Reverb, Bassman 1959, Vox AC-30, and Marshall 1959 Super Lead. The more saturated tones include SLDN inspired by the Soldano SLO-100, RFIER based on the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, and several BOSS creations.
Is it possible to load custom impulse responses into this pedal?
It is possible to load impulse responses via USB-C and dedicated software for Mac or Windows. The pedal includes an IR loader and operates at a 96 kHz sample rate.
How to use the effects loop on the BOSS IR-2?
The loop provides a mono Send and a Return compatible with mono or stereo. It allows insertion of delay or modulation pedals after the amp section.
Does the pedal have two channels and built-in reverb?
Two amp channels can be footswitchable or controlled via an external pedal, allowing alternation between, for example, clean and lead sounds. Room, Hall, or Plate ambience settings are available to add space to the signal. The bypass is of the buffered type.
