Alpha.Omega Goes "Machine" Mode: Darkglass DNA, Programmable Version
With the Alpha.Omega Photon, Darkglass merges its Alpha.Omega distortion (now a benchmark for modern bass tones) with an ultra-functional approach designed for current rigs: presets, external control, and studio integration. The idea is simple: retain the aggressive and articulate character of the Alpha.Omega, but with a complete chain (compression, EQ, cab simulation) and connectivity capable of replacing an amp or becoming the heart of a recording setup.
For Which Bassists, Styles, and Situations?
The Alpha.Omega Photon targets bassists who want a bass distortion pedal capable of ranging from subtle grit to a wall of saturation, without sacrificing mix clarity. It excels in modern rock, metal, prog, hardcore, stoner, but remains formidable for more controlled tones (punch, attack, sustain) thanks to the compressor and Blend.
In live settings, it can serve as a preamp/DI with IR cab simulation and XLR output to the console. In the studio, it becomes a fast direct recording tool while offering real sculpting finesse via the 6-band EQ. And for home practice: Aux input + headphone output, ideal for rehearsing with backing tracks without an amp.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Darkglass Alpha Omega Photon replace a bass amp in a live concert?
The XLR DI output with ground lift allows a direct connection to a mixing console, featuring speaker cabinet simulation via IR. Five IRs are built-in, and third-party impulse responses can be loaded through the software. Two balanced 6.35 mm TRS outputs complete the connectivity.
What compression settings are available?
Five ratios are offered: 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1, and ALL IN. The Compression knob controls the compression level with an intelligent make-up gain.
Is it possible to play with headphones and a backing track?
A 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack Aux input allows connection of an audio source, while the 3.5 mm headphone output supports headphones with impedance ranging from 16 to 600 ohms.
What are the MIDI and USB connections on this Darkglass pedal?
The MIDI In input uses a 3.5 mm TRS Type B mini-jack and supports Program Change and Control Change messages. The USB-C port functions as a USB audio interface and provides access to Darkglass Suite for preset editing, updates, and IR management. MIDI mapping and output routing can be configured there.
How to adjust the EQ and the clean/distortion blend?
Six touch-sensitive faders control the low shelf, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1.5 kHz, 3 kHz, and high shelf bands. The Blend knob mixes the clean signal with the Alpha/Omega distortion.
