An Evolution Designed to Go Beyond the B3K
The Microtubes B7K carries forward the dynamic and impactful saturation signature associated with the B3K, while adding a more "preamp" approach thanks to a full EQ and more studio-oriented connectivity. The idea is simple: maintain the attack, definition, and playing feel typical of the Microtubes series, but with more tools to position the bass exactly where you want it in a band, recording, or sound system.
For Which Bassists and Contexts?
This bass overdrive pedal is aimed at both intermediate bassists and seasoned musicians who want a solid and consistent sound from one backline to another. It excels in styles where the bass must remain present and articulate: modern rock, metal, punk, prog, but also muscular funk and pop where a slight drive adds texture without muddying the notes.
In live settings, the DI facilitates a direct output to the console while preserving your tone. In the studio, it becomes a "ready-to-mix" recording tool: you can blend a clear, well-defined signal with a denser saturated signal, while precisely adjusting the mids to prevent the bass from disappearing behind guitars.
Controls, Switches, and Connectivity: A True Control Center
The B7K offers a comprehensive control section designed to maintain low-end foundation while managing the amount of grit. The Blend control allows you to mix the clean signal with the saturated signal: ideal for preserving transient impact and clarity when playing fingerstyle or with a pick. The Drive adjusts the saturation level, from a subtle "edge" to a richer overdrive. The Level sets the output volume to match or boost your pedalboard level.
The onboard EQ includes Low, Low Mids, Hi Mids, and Treble. Two frequency selection knobs make the mids very versatile: 500 Hz / 1 kHz for presence and attack, and 1.5 kHz / 3 kHz for definition, bite, and modern "clank." The Attack and Grunt switches allow you to adjust response and character, adapting the pedal to passive basses, active basses, vintage pickups, or modern humbuckers. The footswitch provides effect bypass with a clear LED status indicator.
For integration, there is a 6.35mm Jack input and output, a direct output in stereo 6.35mm Jack format, and a parallel output in 6.35mm Jack format, useful for feeding a second amp, tuner, or alternate signal path. A Ground Lift switch is included to help reduce hum issues depending on the setup.
The Sound
The Microtubes B7K is known for a modern, tight, and highly responsive saturation that respects playing dynamics and keeps the bass intelligible in a dense mix. The low end remains solid, while the mids can be sculpted to go from an organic "growl" to a more aggressive and cutting presence. With the Blend control, the pedal easily retains attack and dynamics even with high drive, making it particularly effective for fast lines, palm-muting with a pick, or parts that require impeccable definition.
At light settings, it delivers a granular warmth and a "push" feel close to a working preamp. Pushing the Drive and adjusting the mids yields a richer saturation with a top end capable of delivering a modern metal-style bite while maintaining a controlled low-end foundation.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Darkglass Microtubes B7K V2 suitable for metal and modern rock?
Its modern saturation maintains a defined bass in dense mixes, with selectable mids at 500 Hz or 1 kHz, then at 1.5 kHz or 3 kHz. The Blend control preserves the attack of the clean signal when the Drive is pushed.
What power supply is required for this pedal?
A 9 V DC power supply is required, with a 5.5 x 2.1 mm coaxial connector and negative center polarity. The stated current draw is 20 mA. The power supply is not included.
Can it be connected directly to a mixing console?
The connectivity includes a direct output on a 6.35 mm stereo jack and a Ground Lift to reduce hum depending on the setup.
How are the mids adjusted on the B7K V2?
Two selectors determine the Low Mid frequencies between 500 Hz and 1 kHz, and the Hi Mid frequencies between 1.5 kHz and 3 kHz. This configuration allows adjustment of the bass presence, bite, or definition.
Can the signal be sent to two destinations?
A parallel output on a 6.35 mm jack allows feeding a second signal path, such as another amp or a tuner, in addition to the main output.
