A Global Recording Standard in the DPA "Standard" Range

Within the Standard series, the DPA 4006A has established itself as a reliable choice in both studio and high-end live sound recording. Its reputation is based on a "no coloration" approach: the microphone aims to reproduce the source as it is, with remarkable spatial sensation and clarity. This philosophy makes it a recurring choice when seeking a dependable capture capable of spanning styles and production constraints, from classical to contemporary music, including broadcast and transmission.

Its position in the lineup is clear: to offer a premium omnidirectional capture focused on realism, while remaining adaptable through acoustic modification elements. The result: a single microphone can cover multiple "behaviors" of sound capture depending on the soundstage to be reproduced and placement distance.

What Sound Sources Is the DPA 4006A Designed For?

The 4006A is aimed at sound engineers, stage managers, studios, and musicians seeking an extremely natural capture with a coherent response across a wide range of instruments. In stereo, it is particularly suited to A-B configurations for symphony orchestra in concert halls, when the goal is to achieve a wide, realistic, and spacious image.

It also excels in close-miking demanding acoustic sources: concert grand piano, guitar, double bass, percussion, as well as on vocals when preserving texture and micro-details without artificial magnification effects is desired. Thanks to its high SPL handling, it can withstand dynamic sources while maintaining the naturalness of transients.

Transparency, Adaptation, and Control: Key Features

An Omnidirectional Capsule Designed for Fidelity

Equipped with the MMC4006 capsule featuring omnidirectional directivity, the 4006A is designed to capture the overall balance of a source and its environment. This directivity facilitates realistic reproduction of natural reverberations and depth of field, a major asset for acoustic ensembles, solo instruments in beautiful rooms, and any recording where space is part of the sound.

Accessories and Grilles: Shaping the Signature Without "Tinkering" the Signal

One of the strengths of the 4006A lies in its acoustic modification accessories, including 3 interchangeable grilles and a windscreen. These elements allow adapting the microphone's behavior to the situation (distance, desired spectral balance, perception of high frequencies), while remaining within an acoustic logic. Unlike electrical filter processing, this approach avoids introducing unwanted issues such as phase shifts, noise, or distortion, which is particularly appreciated in stereo recordings and highly dynamic sessions.

Recording Tools: Low-Cut Filter and High-Boost

To quickly refine the capture depending on placement and room, the 4006A offers a switchable low-cut filter and High-Boost mode. The low-cut helps control vibrations, handling noise, or bass buildup related to the environment, while the High-Boost adds extra presence in certain configurations, especially when the recording distance increases or when enhancing the sense of detail is desired.
