A "best-of" modulation in the Electro-Harmonix spirit

Released in 2019, the Mod 11 fits the Electro-Harmonix philosophy: offering a compact, robust, and creative pedal capable of revisiting iconic sounds while adding modern options. It features clear nods to modulation classics, such as the Univibe vibe or a chorus with a character close to the Small Clone, while going further with rarer treatments like the Through Zero Flanger and modulated filters inspired by analog synths.

Who is the Mod 11 for, and in which styles does it make a difference?

The Electro-Harmonix Mod 11 is aimed at guitarists (and bassists) who want a wide range of modulations without multiplying pedals. It suits both intermediate musicians exploring their first "chorus/phaser/vibe" sounds and advanced players seeking more advanced variations through secondary parameters.

In practice, it easily finds its place on a pedalboard for rock (phaser, flange, rotary), blues and pop (tremolo, chorus, vibe), ambient and experimental genres (modulated pitch, modulated filters), and of course in the studio for layering colors without changing hardware. Live, the Tap Tempo and momentary mode make the pedal particularly enjoyable to use during a set.

Features, controls, and advanced options

The Mod 11 includes 11 types of modulation, each enriched with additional modes to vary the effect's behavior. Its major strength lies in the secondary parameters (the famous "hidden" settings) accessible via a dedicated mode: you can thus push editing beyond the front-panel controls and finely customize the sound without falling into the complexity of a multi-effects unit.

The Tap Tempo can be triggered from the built-in footswitch or controlled via an external footswitch, convenient if you want to reserve the main switch for effect activation. The momentary mode allows smooth entry/exit from the effect: perfect for a tremolo passage at the end of a phrase, a phaser hit on a riff, or a rotary on a sustained chord.

Regarding integration, the pedal operates in mono and uses a buffered bypass, useful for preserving highs and presence when chaining multiple cables and pedals on a large pedalboard.

Sound

The Mod 11 covers a very wide spectrum, from "vintage" modulations to more futuristic textures. The chorus ranges from simple thickening to a wider tri-chorus, ideal for expansive clean sounds. The UNI block provides an organic modulation in the vibe spirit, with chorus and vibrato variants, plus an integrated overdrive touch to thicken the grain.

More characterful algorithms, like the Rotary, add three-dimensional movement and can include overdrive to recall the "saturated" side of a rotary speaker. The flangers (including the Through Zero Flanger) range from subtle animation to a very pronounced jet effect, with modulation shape options to sculpt the sweep. Finally, the PITCH and FILT sections open the door to modern textures: expressive modulated pitch, low-pass/high-pass/band-pass filters, and behaviors close to an envelope filter, perfect for synth-like colors and ultra-lively rhythms.
