An EHX Pitch Shifting Reference, Reinvented in Pico Format

The Pitch Fork is among the modern pitch shifting pedals that popularized a polyphonic approach that's easy to dial in, capable of tracking both single notes and chords. With the Pico Pitch Fork, Electro-Harmonix retains this DNA and pushes it further into a Pico chassis designed for dense pedalboards, while keeping the "plug and play" spirit that made the series famous.

Who Is the Pico Pitch Fork For?

This pedal is aimed at guitarists (and bassists) who want to expand their palette without complexity: octave up/down to thicken a riff, harmonies for two-voice leads, detune to simulate a subtle chorus, or quick pitch bends in momentary mode. It naturally fits in rock, metal (instant downtuning), pop, indie, funk, and textured music, both in studio and live settings where precision and responsiveness are key.

Controls, Modes, and Flexibility: Everything Designed for Playing

The heart of the Pico Pitch Fork is its SHIFT selector (10 intervals) combined with the MODE button that chooses the transposition direction: Up (red LED), Down (green LED), or Dual (orange LED) to generate two intervals simultaneously. The BLEND knob lets you go from a completely clean signal to a 100% shifted signal, while VOL adjusts the overall output level to maintain consistent volume between bypass and effect.

The SWEEP control adds a "performance" dimension: by setting the sweep time, you get faster or slower pitch rises/falls when switching between bypass and effect, perfect for tremolo-arm/whammy-style parts without an expression pedal. On stage, the footswitch can operate in Latching (classic on/off) or Momentary (effect active only while holding the switch), ideal for accents, phrase endings, or spot impacts.

Finally, Electro-Harmonix included a real plus for pedalboard integration: multiple selectable bypass topologies (digital, buffered analog, hybrid) to optimize either smooth transitions or signal purity in bypass depending on your chain. Note: the pedal must be powered to pass the signal, even in bypass.

The Sound

The Pico Pitch Fork stands out with a clean, modern, and stable sound, with tracking designed to remain musical on chords and voicings. At 100% wet, you get a clear transposition, ideal for simulating another register (baritone-like, octave lead, "drop" riffs), while with a more subtle BLEND, it becomes a very expressive doubling tool: slight detune to thicken, discreet octave to add body, or Dual harmonies that fill the space without overpowering the playing.

The Pitch Fork family is regularly adopted by guitarists with very distinctive playing styles (notably seen with Jack White, Jonny Greenwood, and Billy Gibbons according to observed rigs), and the Pico version has been spotted more recently on modern setups oriented towards groove and textures, for example with Mark Speer. Result: a pedal equally comfortable for immediate "fun" sounds as for more sophisticated harmonized layers.
