The ZLX Series, an Accessible Reference from Electro-Voice
The ZLX-8-G2 continues the legacy of Electro-Voice's ZLX range, designed to offer an excellent balance between portability, usable power, and ease of use. This G2 version retains the series' DNA: a rugged polypropylene enclosure, field-oriented dispersion, and road-ready design, while maintaining a particularly easy-to-transport and install format.
Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?
This passive 2-way speaker is a relevant choice for DJs, musicians, service providers, and venues (bars, community halls, small rooms) seeking a compact and efficient solution. As a front fill, it is well suited for close-range sound reinforcement (small stages, zone fills, fills) and, thanks to its 55deg cut pan, it can also be used as a stage monitor when space is limited.
Its 8-ohm impedance and Speakon connectivity facilitate integration with most amplifiers and passive systems. This is a speaker aimed at efficiency: plug it in, position it, and quickly achieve coherent coverage and clear sound.
Acoustic Design: Efficiency, Control, and Impact
The ZLX-8-G2 adopts a Bass Reflex architecture to maximize impact in the low end while maintaining a fast response suited to vocals and instruments. The WECA2088 8-inch ferrite magnet driver works in tandem with a DH-1K titanium dome tweeter to deliver a balanced sound, with good midrange presence and useful definition for attacks (vocals, snare, guitars, keyboards).
SST Waveguide: More Even Coverage
The SST waveguide is designed to maintain more homogeneous dispersion, with a specified directivity of H90deg x V60deg. In practice, this helps better control the energy sent into the room, limit certain reflections, and improve intelligibility, especially in reverberant environments.
Crossover and High-Frequency Coherence
The crossover between drivers is set at 2 kHz, with a 60 Hz high-pass filter. This approach promotes a more stable transition between bass and treble, useful for maintaining a natural vocal sound and clear projection without excessive harshness. With an axial sensitivity of 94 dB SPL (1W/1m), the speaker is efficient and makes good use of the associated amplifier power.

Questions frequently asked
Can the ZLX-8-G2 be used as a stage monitor?
This passive speaker features a 55° side wedge allowing its use as a stage monitor when space is limited.
What amplification should be used with an Electro-Voice ZLX-8-G2 speaker?
With an impedance of 8 ohms and a peak power of 1000 W, this model pairs with an amplifier compatible with passive speakers. The Speakon connector simplifies integration in a sound system. The speaker does not include an internal amplifier.
What sound level can this 8-inch speaker reach?
The maximum declared sound pressure level reaches 124 dB SPL. The on-axis sensitivity is 94 dB SPL at 1 W / 1 m, allowing effective use of the associated amplifier's power.
Does the ZLX-8-G2 go low enough without a subwoofer?
Its frequency response is specified from 67 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB, extending to 55 Hz at -10 dB. The Bass Reflex enclosure supports impact in the low-frequency range.
What sound coverage does the SST waveguide provide?
The SST waveguide offers a 90° horizontal and 60° vertical dispersion for controlled sound projection in the listening area.
