The Heavy marks the brand's entry into the high-gain territory with a very "studio" approach: lots of available gain, effective EQ, and above all concrete tools to maintain a clean, clear, and quiet sound. The idea is not to offer a simple "meaner" distortion but a real control center to sculpt the low-mids, tighten the bass, and shift from 80s metal with pronounced mids to a more hollowed modern brutality, including in low tunings.

The Empress Effects Heavy is aimed at guitarists who want a versatile high-gain distortion without losing precision: metal (thrash, heavy, metalcore, djent), muscular hard rock, aggressive punk, but also any situation where a big wall of controlled gain is sought. On stage, its two channels simplify level management (rhythm/lead) on a pedalboard. In the studio, the EQ and noise gate help quickly dial in a sound that "sits" in the mix, with sharp attacks and controlled low end.

Empress Effects Heavy: what power supply is needed?
The required power supply ranges from 9 to 18 V DC, with center-negative polarity and a 2.1 mm barrel connector. The current consumption is about 200 mA.
Is the noise gate on the Heavy adjustable?
Each channel has its own noise gate selector with Off, Natural, or Aggr. settings. The Natural mode provides smooth closing while preserving sustain. The Aggr. mode ensures a tighter cutoff for very tight riffs.
Is this pedal suitable for low tunings and djent?
The Weight control affects the response of the low end to achieve a tighter or wider feel depending on the tuning. The 250 / 500 / 2 kHz mid selector allows adjustment of the presence and scoop of the sound.
What controls are available on the two channels?
The Heavy and Heavier channels each have Gain, Mid, Output, and Weight controls, complemented by global Hi and Low settings.
What type of connections does this distortion use?
Connection is made via 6.35 mm jack input and output. The input impedance is 1 MΩ and the output impedance is 510 ohms.
