A "three microphones in one" concept to save time in the studio

The FC 4 MC stands out with a simple and effective approach: one microphone, three capture personalities. By changing the head, you switch from a tight and focused pickup (cardioid), to a more selective directivity (hypercardioid), or to a more open and natural image (omnidirectional). This versatility is particularly practical when alternating between close miking, ambient recording, or sessions where the room acoustics strongly influence the sound.

Intended uses and user profiles

This small-diaphragm condenser microphone is aimed at demanding home studio users, project studios, and musicians who want a single microphone capable of covering many situations. It excels on acoustic guitar (definition, controlled brightness), acoustic piano (attack and dynamics), and on more complex textures like a clean electric guitar or sounds rich in harmonics.

In live settings, its compact size facilitates placement, and its polar patterns offer concrete solutions against feedback: the hypercardioid is useful when the stage is noisy, while the cardioid remains a versatile standard. With the pad, it can also handle high levels on amps or drums, while maintaining a clear transient response.

Features: polar patterns, bass control, and level management

Three capsules to sculpt the sound capture

Polar pattern is not just a technical detail: it changes the perception of space, the amount of room sound, and how the microphone isolates the source. In cardioid, you get an excellent compromise between focus and naturalness for most instruments. In hypercardioid, the microphone narrows the pickup further: practical for an instrument close to other sources or a stage monitor. In omnidirectional, the sound can become more spacious and coherent in the low end, ideal for a more "true" capture when the acoustics are flattering.

High-pass filter: cleaner bass, easier mixing

The high-pass filter helps clean up vibrations, residual handling noise, and excessive bass related to the proximity effect. It is a useful reflex on acoustic guitar, overheads, hi-hat, or vocals, to gain clarity even before equalization in your digital audio workstation.

-10 dB pad: more headroom before clipping

When the source is very loud (guitar amp, percussion, snare drum with bleed, brass), the -10 dB pad helps maintain clean dynamics and avoid overloading the microphone input stage or your preamp. Combined with a high maximum sound pressure level, the FC 4 MC performs well on energetic takes, including when you seek a present, close, and punchy sound.

Class A transformerless electronics: transparency and responsiveness

Its discrete Class A transformerless electronics aim for clear and fast reproduction, with a sense of precision on attacks (pick, piano hammers, drum transients) and a stable image in the high-frequency range. The low noise level contributes to clean recordings on finer sources, such as arpeggios or playing nuances, without needing to excessively boost gain.
