Hohner and the Melodica: A Classic Born in the 1950s
Invented in the 1950s by the Hohner group, the melodica has established itself as a wind instrument with a keyboard that is as simple as it is expressive. Its portable format, immediate playability, and musical potential (melody, harmony, rhythm) have made it a staple in music schools, while also appealing to experienced musicians. In this tradition, the Hohner Ocean is among the modern versions designed to offer smoother play and better responsiveness. For Whom and In Which Styles?
The Hohner Ocean is suitable both for beginners seeking an intuitive instrument and for intermediate musicians looking for a reliable melodica to work on sight-reading, ear training, and rhythmic placement. Its versatility makes it comfortable in variety, pop, reggae, world music, and many educational contexts. Thanks to its responsive keyboard, it is also well-suited for fast passages and dynamic "right-hand" accompaniments.Sound and Design
A melodica is distinguished by a crisp attack and an expressive timbre, halfway between the harmonica and the accordion, with surprising projection given its size. The frictionless keyboard of the Ocean models has been designed to promote a smoother sound production and more agile playing, especially in fast runs and complex rhythms. Its blue body provides a clear and modern visual identity, while the mouthpiece with ergonomic blowing tube enhances playing comfort, particularly when the instrument is placed down to play the keyboard like a small piano.Recommended Compatible Accessories
To keep the instrument clean and durable, a cleaning swab suitable for wind instruments can be useful, as well as a soft cloth for the exterior. The supplied hard case already provides excellent daily protection.Technical specifications
