The SUPER JET series: Jody Jazz's approach between innovation and craftsmanship
Created by Jody Espina, the Jody Jazz brand has established itself with a clear philosophy: to offer saxophone mouthpieces that are both high-performing and demanding, designed to meet the needs of professional musicians as well as advanced students. The SUPER JET series fully embodies this approach, featuring a stage-oriented design and a decidedly modern character, while maintaining a sound rich enough to remain musical and versatile.
For which saxophonists and styles?
The Jody Jazz SUPER JET tenor is primarily aimed at intermediate to professional saxophonists seeking a responsive mouthpiece, very present in the mix and capable of going far in dynamics. It excels in Smooth Jazz, Rock, and Funk, especially in band contexts with drums and electric guitars, where the tenor is expected to have a clear attack, strong projection, and excellent stability in extreme registers.
Sound and design
Made of silver-plated brass, the SUPER JET focuses on a bright and clear tonal aesthetic, with a very marked sense of edge and presence. The power and projection come from specific work on the baffle and internal geometry to achieve an immediate response and easy emission. The rails (thin tip rail and side rails) contribute to articulation precision and homogeneity, while the design aims to preserve a "free" and full sound even at high volume.
The shorter facing curve is a key point: it facilitates a more natural transition to the altissimo register and provides an instant feeling of responsiveness. Conversely, a slightly softer reed than usual may be appropriate, as the vibrating part behaves differently with this type of facing.
Recommended compatible accessories
This mouthpiece is delivered with a ligature, a mouthpiece cap, and a pouch, giving you the essentials immediately for playing and transporting your gear. To optimize response (especially in the altissimo), it may be wise to try a reed strength slightly lower than your usual setup, as suggested by the SUPER JET's design.
