A Mouthpiece Born from Pedagogy and Instrument Creation

Developed as part of the "wild instrument making" initiatives at the CFMI (Centre de Formation de Musiciens Intervenants) of the University Charles-de-Gaulle Lille 3, the Lugdivine mouthpiece is part of an approach that is both educational and creative. Inspired by standard trombone mouthpieces, it takes the form of a "cup" designed to encourage sound experimentation, whether in schools, mediation workshops, or alternative musical practices.

For Whom and in What Uses?

This mouthpiece is especially aimed at beginners, teachers, facilitators, and curious musicians who want to explore making homemade wind instruments. It is well suited for group contexts (classrooms, school brass bands, discovery workshops) where a simple solution is sought to approach the brass family. In terms of styles, it naturally supports practices such as brass bands, street music, contemporary projects, and any approach based on play, improvisation, and experimentation.

Sound and Design

A mouthpiece, even made of plastic, remains the starting point for lip vibration: the "cup" shape facilitates access to a clear sound production and a quick start to discover the sensations of brass instruments. Mounted on a tube or bell, it produces a direct, characteristic "brass" sound, with a generally forgiving response for the first notes. Made of ABS, it offers a good balance between durability and lightness, and its color may vary (color non-contractual), which is practical for differentiating mouthpieces during workshops.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To complete educational use, you can pair it with a bell and tubes (PVC or flexible hose) to build an experimental instrument. For maintenance in group settings, an appropriate cleaning product and hygiene consumables (such as wipes) can be useful.
