A Cult Overdrive Returns in a Handwired Series
Two decades after its initial release, the Little Green Wonder returns in a refreshed Handwired version, updated while preserving the spirit of the original circuit. The concept remains the same: to offer an overdrive/booster with a very "amp-like" behavior, capable of staying musical and stable in demanding setups (bright amps, already saturated channels, pedals in cascade). The official release date for this version is set for Thursday, April 24, 2026, with first shipments expected by late May 2026.For Which Guitarists, Styles, and Contexts?
The Little Green Wonder Hand Wired is aimed both at the intermediate guitarist looking for an easy-to-adjust overdrive and the advanced musician wanting a reliable tonal foundation, touch-sensitive, and responsive to guitar volume. It excels in blues, classic rock, indie, and pop settings but can also serve as a clean booster to make a solo stand out in the mix without drastically changing the color. In the studio, it is ideal for recording rhythms that remain defined and dynamic. Live, it naturally works as a light "always-on" or as a second gain stage to thicken an existing crunch. On a crowded pedalboard, it maintains clear articulation thanks to its low compression and high output level.
Three Controls, Many Nuances
The LGW's philosophy is simple: few controls but highly musical interaction. The Drive adjusts the amount of saturation, sustain, and harmonic content. The Volume sets the overall output level, allowing a transition from subtle overdrive to a strong boost. The real secret lies in the Body control: it shifts the frequency range "worked" by the overdrive, enabling a move from a thicker low-midrange to a more open presence without merely acting as a treble cut or boost.Another strong point: it adapts very well to both single-coil and humbucker pickups and pairs nicely with amps already rich in harmonics. Placed after a slightly aggressive fuzz, it can also serve as a filter to smooth the high end while retaining bite without harshness.
The Sound
The Little Green Wonder Hand Wired belongs to the family of overdrives with an "organic" grain: precise attack, quick response, and a sound that respects both the guitar and the amp. It offers a rather warm and dense character in the low-midrange when desired, but with the possibility to add clarity to avoid the "blanket" effect that some overdrives impose, especially in an already saturated amp.It is particularly convincing when playing with a pick and dynamics: lowering the guitar volume cleans up the sound without collapsing it. When pushing the Drive, you get a more sustained saturation with a slightly smooth edge, very useful for singing leads. Among users, the LGW is found on pedalboards of artists from rock and alternative scenes, proof of its versatile and "plug and play" profile.

Questions frequently asked
Which power supply should be used with this pedal?
The external power supply accepts a DC voltage from 7.5 V to 18 V, center negative, via a 2.1 mm plug. A 9 V 6F22 battery can also be used, while the mains adapter is not included.
How does the Body control work on the Little Green Wonder Hand Wired?
The Body control affects the frequency and balance of the spectrum processed by the overdrive. It allows the sound to be oriented towards thicker low-mids or a more open presence. The Drive controls the saturation and the Volume sets the overall output level.
Is it compatible with single-coil and humbucker pickups?
The design is stated to be suitable for both single-coil and humbucker pickups. The handwired assembly in Finland notably uses Alpha potentiometers and switches, with Switchcraft jacks.
What are the dimensions and connections of the pedal?
The metal enclosure measures 6.5 cm wide, 12.9 cm deep, and 5.7 cm high, weighing 0.420 kg; the 6.35 mm input and output jacks are located on the top.
When is the Mad Professor Little Green Wonder Hand Wired released?
The official release is announced for Thursday, April 24, 2026. The first shipments are expected at the end of May 2026.
