A boutique overdrive designed for nuance, in the "Honey" spirit
The Sweet Honey Overdrive HW follows the tradition of boutique overdrives where touch takes precedence over gain. Rather than crushing the signal with heavy compression, it emphasizes fine, organic saturation that respects the character of your guitar, pickups, and amp. The result: a pedal that feels like you've "better dialed in the amp," with more life, more responsiveness, and a very natural transition between clean and crunch.
For which guitarists and styles?
This overdrive is aimed at guitarists who want to control saturation through their playing : guitar volume, pick attack intensity, right-hand dynamics-all come into play. It excels in blues, jazz, classic rock, pop, indie, country, and alternative rock, whenever an expressive drive is preferred over heavy distortion.
In the studio, it's formidable for layering clean and clear rhythm takes without muddying the low end. Live, it works equally well as a first gain stage on a clean amp, as a characterful boost to push an amp already on the edge of breakup, or to thicken another overdrive placed after it.
Handwired controls and design: simple yet highly interactive
The Sweet Honey Overdrive HW keeps it simple with three controls, each very impactful. Volume adjusts the overall output level to balance the bypass volume or drive the amp's input. Drive sets the amount of overdrive, from subtle grit to more pronounced crunch. The heart of the pedal is Focus : lowering it delays saturation onset, making the feel softer and rounder; raising it opens the pedal up, adding bite with a slight emphasis on highs and earlier saturation.
This Handwired version emphasizes reliability and pedalboard integration: top-mounted jacks save space, quality components, and a build designed to withstand rehearsals and gigs. The bypass is true bypass to keep your signal intact when the effect is off.
Sound
Expect a low-gain, warm, and nuanced overdrive, closer to an amp gently breaking up than artificial saturation. The Sweet Honey Overdrive HW shines in its responsiveness : playing harder thickens the tone and adds more bite; playing softly (or rolling back the guitar volume) naturally brightens the sound. Depending on the Focus setting, you can go from a smooth, mellow overdrive to a sharper crunch, ideal for making rhythm parts stand out or adding definition to leads without losing clarity.

Questions frequently asked
What type of tone does the Sweet Honey Overdrive HW offer?
The saturation remains low-gain oriented, with a natural transition between clean and crunch tones. The Focus control changes the response: lowering it makes the sound softer; raising it causes saturation to kick in earlier with more treble.
What power supply is needed for this pedal?
The required power supply is 9 V DC with a negative center, via a 2.1 mm jack. A range from 7.5 to 18 V DC is accepted. The current consumption is 5 mA at 9 V DC.
Are the jacks suitable for a compact pedalboard?
The 6.35 mm input and output jack connectors are mounted on the top of the enclosure, which helps save space on a pedalboard.
Is this overdrive compatible with an already crunchy amp?
Used as a characterful boost, it can push an amp close to saturation or thicken another overdrive placed after it. The Volume knob adjusts the output level to drive the amp's input harder.
What is the pedal's input impedance?
The input impedance is 260 kOhm, while the output impedance is 25 kOhm.
