An Axis Super Sport true to Music Man's DNA, with a premium finish
This Axis Super Sport incorporates the hallmarks that made the model successful: modern ergonomics, easy access to the upper frets thanks to the single cutaway, and lutherie focused on performance. It stands out here with a roasted and figured maple neck, and new announced finishes: "Honey Pot," "Matcha Green," "Charcoal Cloud," and "Olallieberry." Depending on the version, the guitar is offered with a flamed maple or quilted maple top on a basswood body.
For which guitarists and styles?
The Axis Super Sport is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists seeking a precise, stable, and comfortable electric guitar, equally at ease in rock, hard rock, punk, alternative, as well as in more nuanced registers thanks to its dynamic response. The asymmetrical neck (thicker on the bass side) promotes endurance and comfort, especially during chord changes, bends, and lead playing along the entire neck.
Sound
The basswood (body) + maple top duo provides a very effective balance: basswood offers a homogeneous base with present mids, while maple adds attack and definition, particularly useful for overdriven tones and articulated riffs. The DiMarzio Custom humbuckers reinforce this identity: output level tailored for "full" rock sounds, with a solid low end and harmonics that are easy to bring out. The 5-position selector switch broadens the palette, and the volume and tone controls allow shifting from a cutting tone to a rounder texture without losing signal coherence.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original specifications, opt for a set of Ernie Ball RPS 9 Slinkys #2239 strings in gauge 9-42 (9p-11p-16p-24w-32w-42w).
