PRS Silver Sky Defender Arles Blue LTD

A Silver Sky Inspired by the Defender World and John Mayer’s Vision

The PRS Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition Arles Blue is far more than a colorful variation of John Mayer’s famous signature guitar. It brings together two worlds defined by design, history and character: PRS American craftsmanship and the iconic shades of vintage Defender vehicles. Its Arles Blue color is directly inspired by John Mayer’s personal Defender, giving this electric guitar a visual identity as strong as its sonic personality.

This edition is part of a collection of four finishes inspired by historic colors: Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow. Each color is limited to just 500 instruments, for a total worldwide run of 2,000 guitars. The matching painted headstock, rarely offered on Silver Sky models, further enhances the exclusivity of this version. Its Defender neck plate, engraved with the color name and the wording “1 of 500,” makes it particularly appealing to collectors and discerning guitarists alike.

An Expressive Electric Guitar for Blues, Pop, Rock and Nuanced Playing

The Silver Sky Defender is aimed at intermediate, advanced and professional guitarists looking for a single-coil electric guitar capable of responding precisely to playing nuances. Its bolt-on maple neck with a 635JM-R profile offers a full, comfortable and natural feel, making it especially well suited to musicians accustomed to vintage-style necks without sacrificing excellent modern stability.

With its long 25.5-inch / 648 mm scale length, 22 frets and 7.25-inch / approximately 184 mm fingerboard radius, this guitar favors an organic, lively touch. It is perfectly suited to clean rhythm parts, detailed arpeggios, expressive blues, pop, funk, classic rock and lightly overdriven tones. Guitarists who enjoy controlling their attack, working with the instrument’s volume and making the most of a tube amp’s dynamics will find it particularly inspiring.

The Clear, Responsive Tone of the 635JM Pickups

At the heart of this PRS Silver Sky is a three-single-coil 635JM pickup configuration. Designed to offer a balance of warmth, clarity and definition, these pickups deliver a precise sound without excessive harshness. The neck pickup emphasizes round, singing lows, ideal for blues phrases, extended chords and deep clean tones. The bridge pickup provides more bite and presence for rock rhythms, assertive attacks and solos that need to cut through a mix.

The intermediate positions on the 5-way selector deliver the scooped, bright tones sought after for funk, pop and sparkling accompaniment parts. Thanks to its two tone controls, the Silver Sky can soften the treble, tame a more aggressive overdrive or fine-tune its balance according to the amplifier and pedals being used. This simple yet effective electronics configuration favors intuitive operation while covering a wide range of tonal colors.

The alder solidbody contributes to the instrument’s versatility. This wood is valued for its balanced response, with clear mids, firm lows and defined highs. Combined with the maple neck and rosewood key, it contributes to a dynamic, articulate and musical tonal range. The bolt-on neck enhances the immediacy of the attack, while the rosewood key adds a touch of warmth to the high frequencies.

The PRS steel tremolo completes this sonic character with a direct response and generous sustain. It allows you to add subtle vibrato, expressive inflections or more pronounced effects while maintaining a stable feel under the fingers. The vintage-style locking tuners and bone nut also contribute to tuning stability, an essential feature for a guitar designed to be played regularly both on stage and in the studio.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

This Silver Sky comes factory-fitted with a set of electric guitar strings in 10–46 gauge. To preserve its tension balance, playing comfort and factory setup, using a replacement set with the same 10–46 gauge is recommended. As the instrument is supplied with its PRS ATA Defender molded case, no additional case is required for transport and protection.
