A Classic RØDE Tube Mic, Following the K2

Like the K2, the RØDE NTK is a tube condenser microphone designed for studio recording, with a sonic signature combining warmth, depth, and clarity. While the K2 aims for maximum flexibility (notably through extended polar pattern options depending on configurations), the NTK goes straight to the point with a cardioid capsule: a deliberate choice to focus on the most common recording scenarios, allowing quick setup and consistent results.

Designed and manufactured in Australia, it belongs to the range of RØDE microphones intended for demanding home studios as well as professional environments, emphasizing the quality of conversion and musicality typical of tube circuits.

For Which Recordings and Users?

The NTK is aimed at singers, beatmakers, sound engineers, and content creators who want to step up their recording quality without resorting to a "clinical" microphone. Its cardioid polar pattern makes it an excellent choice for capturing a primary source with good room control, especially in home studios.

It excels on vocals (pop, rock, rap, voice-over), acoustic instruments (guitar, strings, percussion), drum overheads, guitar amps, and piano. Thanks to its ability to handle very high SPLs, it remains comfortable on powerful sources while maintaining a beautiful presence on more nuanced sounds.

Carefully Designed Electronics for Wide Dynamics and Low Self-Noise

Pressure Gradient Transducer and Effective Cardioid Pattern

The NTK is based on a pressure gradient transducer, an architecture recognized for its balance between precision and musicality. Combined with a cardioid polar pattern, this design focuses the capture on the source while limiting unwanted bleed. The result: cleaner recordings, easier to process in mixing (EQ, compression, reverb), with a stable stereo image.

Selected 6922 Tube and Robust Output Stage

Its circuit integrates a selected 6922 dual triode tube, used here to exploit the transducer's sensitivity while providing the harmonic character expected from a tube microphone. The NTK combines a tube section with a JFET impedance converter, complemented by a bipolar output buffer. This approach aims for a full-bodied reproduction, a very wide dynamic range, and very low self-noise, capturing both the details of a performance and the energy of a loud take.

External Power Supply: Stability and Studio Performance

Like any true tube microphone, the NTK relies on an external power supply provided. It ensures stable operation of the electronics and helps maintain a consistent performance level session after session. For the user, this translates into reliable handling, comfortable headroom, and a coherent sonic signature, whether on a lead vocal, an acoustic guitar, or overheads.
