What TR-707 Software Rhythm Composer Is For
TR-707 Software Rhythm Composer is a virtual drum machine instrument designed to produce 80s-style patterns and modern grooves with the unique character of the TR-707. It targets producers of synth pop, acid house, industrial, electro, indie, and alternative music as well as beatmakers looking for a compact, efficient, and instantly inspiring rhythmic foundation. Its goal is simple: to recapture the "hardware" feel of the TR while benefiting from a software environment tailored for home studios and contemporary production methods.
Main Features
A vintage digital sound impossible to "sample" properly
Although the TR-707 is a digital drum machine, its identity is not limited to samples. The software reproduction relies on recovering vintage PCM data and advanced circuit modeling to recreate the output stage and behaviors that define the machine's signature: pitch variations, attenuation characteristics, and the "grain" linked to digital flow and the analog path post-conversion. The result: a more lively, credible, and musical rendering than a simple sample library.
From vintage to radical: extended sound shaping
TR-707 Software Rhythm Composer pushes the TR-707 beyond the hardware limits. Each instrument benefits from flexible settings (tuning and attenuation), with iconic parameters like the kick drum Attack and snare Snappy. You can also saturate the internal circuit, modify the PCM waveform behavior, and manipulate the PCM clock over an extreme range (from 6.25 kHz to 100 kHz) to go from authentic rendering to aggressive and degraded textures.
Next-generation sequencer inspired by the TR spirit
The original TR-707 was renowned for its advanced sequencer. Here, the step sequencing approach is enhanced to detail the groove: instrument tracks with Mute and Solo, adjustable Shuffle per instrument, accents per step, and dynamic possibilities per step (strong or weak hits, alternate sounds, three types of sub-steps, nine types of flams). This allows programming straight, shuffled, or highly articulated rhythms while maintaining the speed of a TR interface.
DAW workflow: drag-and-drop, professional formats, and adaptable interface
Fully comfortable in modern production, the plug-in offers a detailed and resizable interface suitable for all screen sizes. Patterns can be dragged and dropped as audio or MIDI directly onto your tracks or cells, instantly moving from idea to song. Integration is ensured via VST3, AU, and AAX formats, with native Apple Silicon support.

Is the Roland TR-707 compatible with VST3, AU, and AAX?
Compatibility includes VSTi 3.6 64-bit, AU, and AAX formats, allowing integration into compatible digital audio workstations.
Can patterns be exported as MIDI or audio?
Patterns can be drag-and-dropped directly as audio or MIDI to the tracks and cells of the host software.
What sound settings are available on the drum sounds?
Each instrument has tuning and decay settings. The Kick drum's Attack and the Snare drum's Snappy are also adjustable. The PCM clock can vary from 6.25 kHz to 100 kHz, and the internal circuitry can be saturated.
How many patterns and variations can be programmed?
One bank contains 128 patterns, each allowing 8 variations from A to H. New user banks can be created.
What Mac configuration is required for this plug-in?
The minimum system specified is macOS 11 with an Intel Core i5 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 400 MB of disk space. A display resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels is required.
