Selmer MUSE BB - 19 KEYS

A Henri SELMER Paris Clarinet, Between French Tradition and Innovation

Manufactured in France at the Mantes-la-Ville workshops, the Henri SELMER Paris Muse clarinet belongs to a lineage of instruments designed by and for demanding musicians. The Muse model stands out with a modern approach to the grenadilla clarinet: it retains the character of a traditional instrument while integrating the Evolution system, designed to improve stability against humidity and support the musician over time. This clarinet asserts a strong identity, both in its design and aesthetic choices.

For Which Musician and Repertoires

The Selmer Muse targets intermediate to advanced clarinetists (and professionals) seeking a reactive Bb clarinet with clear response and immediate control. Its balance and intonation make it comfortable in both classical (orchestra, chamber music, conservatory) and jazz and pop genres, where projection and attack precision are especially appreciated. It is also a serious candidate for musicians who play frequently, rehearse extensively, or alternate between stages and varied playing conditions.

Sound and Design

With its body made of selected grenadilla (stabilized for 3 years in a controlled atmosphere), the Muse aims for a rich and centered timbre, with carefully worked homogeneity across all registers. The 14.60 mm bore contributes to a sense of openness and projection while maintaining good intonation stability. The silver-plated nickel silver keywork, combined with leather, Gore-Tex, and cork pads and stainless steel needle springs, ensures reliable mechanics and consistent sealing, essential for stable sound production. Aesthetically, the laser engraving on the lower body, silver and matte black chrome rings, and the black chrome metal bell ring give the instrument a visually distinctive identity.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

This clarinet is delivered with a Selmer Echo mouthpiece, a mouthpiece cap, a ligature, and a "Prisme" case. The most useful daily addition is generally a Bb clarinet swab (for the body and bell) to limit moisture after playing, and a thumb cushion if you seek even more comfort during long sessions (while respecting the adjustable thumb rest already present).
