The Renewal of the SELMER Soprano, Heir to the Series III
The Henri SELMER Paris SIGNATURE soprano saxophone marks a new stage in the history of the French brand. It succeeds the Super Action 80 Series II and Series III models, retaining their spirit while profoundly evolving their acoustic and mechanical qualities. Inspired by the Series III, the emblematic model launched in 1993, it is positioned as the sole soprano in the Henri SELMER Paris range.
Its name, "SIGNATURE", highlights SELMER's identity as a manufacturer and inventor. Made in the tradition of the Mantes-la-Ville workshop, this instrument combines craftsmanship passed down through generations with a resolutely contemporary design. Its original engraving draws on the Art Deco aesthetic, the period that also saw the birth of the first SELMER saxophone in 1922.
A Versatile Soprano Saxophone, from the Conservatory to the Stage
The SIGNATURE soprano is designed for saxophonists seeking a high-end, reliable and expressive instrument. Its ease of response provides valuable support for intermediate musicians looking to better master the specific characteristics of the soprano, particularly in the low register, the right hand and the upper register. It also meets the requirements of advanced and professional players looking for precision, projection and tonal nuances.
Its great wealth of tone colors allows it to adapt naturally to a wide range of styles: classical music, jazz, contemporary music, popular music, chamber music, saxophone orchestras and wind ensembles. Its tonal balance facilitates both precise work within an ensemble and personal expression as a soloist.
Roundness, Stability and Projection: A Distinctive Soprano Voice
The SIGNATURE soprano saxophone produces a round, immediately appealing sound without excessive brightness. The redesigned necks and the refinements to the tone-hole network help homogenize the tone colors across the entire range. The bore—that is, the inner profile of the tube, which directly influences the instrument's response and balance—has been developed to provide a freer, more natural response.
From low B♭ to high G, this soprano maintains balanced intonation and excellent continuity between registers. The low register gains in reliability, while the right-hand notes respond with greater security. The high and altissimo registers remain stable, even at low dynamics, allowing players to perform with finesse without losing control of the attack or sound quality.
The Black finishing highlights the instrument's elegant lines as well as its SIGNATURE engraving. The natural mother-of-pearl keys provide comfortable contact under the fingers, while the thumb rests made of fine gold-plated metal enhance the luxurious character of this professional soprano saxophone.
A Mechanism Designed for a Smooth Playing Feel
The neck receiver with a 3-point concentric clamping system provides an especially secure body-to-neck connection. This essential area of the instrument features a mobile nickel-silver clamping ring, an alloy renowned for its density and robustness. Adjustable in position, it optimizes the neck's stability while reinforcing the strength of the entire assembly.
The octave key system with Teflon bearings lightens the mechanical action and promotes smooth operation. It limits play, unwanted noise and wear over time. The leather pads equipped with riveted metal resonators complete this demanding design, contributing to the precision of the seal and the saxophone's response quality.
