The revival of the SELMER Paris soprano, between heritage and modernity
The Henri SELMER Paris SIGNATURE soprano saxophone is part of the renewal of the French brand’s iconic models. It draws on the acoustic spirit of the renowned Série III, launched in 1993, while significantly evolving its mechanics and tonal design. This model is now the only soprano in the SELMER Paris range, succeeding the Super Action 80 Série II and Série III.
Manufactured in continuation of an instrumental tradition initiated by Henri SELMER Paris at the end of the 19th century, this soprano pays tribute to the craftsmen of the Mantes-la-Ville workshop. Its original engraving combines tools, metalworking flames, templates and technical drawings in a visual language inspired by Art Deco, the era in which the first SELMER saxophone was created in 1922.
A versatile soprano saxophone, from the conservatory to the stage
The SIGNATURE is designed for saxophonists looking for a high-end soprano that feels more reassuring and spontaneous to play. It is perfectly suited to advanced musicians, demanding conservatory students and professionals seeking a reliable instrument in every playing situation.
Its exceptional flexibility makes it easy to approach classical music, jazz, contemporary music, popular music, stage music and saxophone ensembles. The soprano remains particularly sensitive to the mouthpiece and breath control, but this model makes it easier to achieve a relaxed response and controlled intonation.
Immediate warmth and mechanics designed for confidence
The SIGNATURE soprano stands out with its rich, powerful and naturally round tone. Its newly designed tone holes, combined with the evolution of the tone-hole network, provide greater consistency between registers. The low notes offer improved reliability, the right-hand notes respond with greater security, while the high and altissimo registers retain their stability, even at very soft dynamics.
Projection remains generous without sacrificing tonal refinement. The instrument offers an appreciable breadth of sound and better-balanced brightness throughout all registers. This consistency helps the musician shape their own sound, whether they are looking for a round, classical approach, a more assertive jazz presence or precise articulation in contemporary repertoires.
The ergonomics are based on smooth and robust mechanics. The three-point concentric-clamping socket for the neck reinforces the connection between the neck and the body. Its movable nickel-silver ring, made from a dense and durable metal alloy, can be adjusted to optimise the clamping. The octave key mounted on Teflon bearings reduces friction, limits mechanical noise and contributes to smoother action.
Accessories included for playing and maintaining your soprano
The saxophone comes with a Henri SELMER Paris Concept mouthpiece, along with its ligature and mouthpiece cap. Its exclusive SIGNATURE case, manufactured by BAM, makes it easy to transport the instrument and its two necks. Also included are a cord with metal medallion, a metal end plug, a swab for the body and necks, a dual-material cloth and cork grease for maintaining the sockets.
