The Renewal of the SELMER Paris Soprano, Heir to the Série III
The Henri SELMER Paris Signature soprano saxophone continues the legacy of the renowned Série III, a model launched in 1993 that has become a benchmark among many saxophonists. It replaces the former Super Action 80 Série II and Série III soprano models, becoming the sole soprano offering from SELMER Paris.
Its name, "Signature", asserts the French brand's identity as a manufacturer and inventor, with a history intimately linked to the saxophone since the 1920s. Crafted in the spirit of the Mantes-la-Ville Manufacture, this instrument combines traditional expertise, modern acoustic development and high finishing standards.
A Versatile Soprano Saxophone for Exploring Every Style
The Soprano Signature is designed for saxophonists looking for a high-end, expressive instrument that inspires confidence in every situation. It is suitable for intermediate musicians wishing to take their playing to the next level, advanced students looking to develop their soprano technique, and professionals seeking a reliable partner on stage or in the studio.
Its flexible response makes it equally suited to classical and contemporary repertoire, jazz, popular music, chamber music, saxophone ensembles and more amplified projects. As the soprano is a precise and sensitive instrument, this ease of response allows the player to focus more on phrasing, dynamics and musical expression.
Warmth, Stability and Projection: A Freer Soprano Voice
The redesigned necks and the work carried out on the tone-hole network, meaning the acoustic openings in the body, deliver immediate warmth across the entire range. The tone retains its natural clarity without easily becoming excessively bright, resulting in a denser, fuller and particularly appealing sound.
Intonation has been rebalanced from low to high, while the registers offer greater continuity. The high and altissimo notes benefit from impressive stability, even at soft dynamics. The response of the low register and the notes controlled by the right hand becomes more reliable, encouraging relaxed playing and clean articulation.
The Soprano Signature comes with two necks, straight and curved, offering two complementary playing approaches. The straight neck preserves a direct and precise feel, while the curved neck can provide different ergonomics and a more enveloping perception of the sound. The set natural mother-of-pearl keys, gold-plated metal thumb rests and Art Deco engraving highlight its refined character.
A Mechanism Designed for Smoothness and Durability
The neck receiver features a three-point concentric tightening system, designed to secure the connection between the body and the neck. Its adjustable nickel-silver ring, an alloy renowned for its rigidity, can be positioned with precision and adds density to this essential area of the instrument.
The octave key is mounted on Teflon bearings. This design lightens the mechanical action, limits unwanted play and reduces the noise and wear associated with repeated movement. The leather pads with riveted metal resonators contribute to precise sealing and the instrument's even response.
A Lacquered Finishing with Art Deco-Inspired Engraving
This version is offered with a lacquered finishing, highlighting the saxophone's lines and Signature engraving. Its Art Deco motifs evoke the gestures of the artisans, the tools, the flames of metalworking, the templates and the technical drawings that form part of the history of the SELMER Paris manufacture. The result gives the soprano a strong visual identity, combining craftsmanship heritage with modernity.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The saxophone is supplied ready to play with its Henri SELMER Paris Concept mouthpiece, ligature and mouthpiece cap. For routine maintenance, the dedicated body and neck swab, dual-material cloth and supplied grease help preserve the surfaces, remove moisture after playing and maintain the proper operation of the neck receiver. The exclusive Signature case made by BAM ensures secure transport of the instrument and its two necks.
