Yamaha YSS875EXHG Custom - Lacquered Bb Soprano

Custom EX: Yamaha Research at the Service of the Soprano

The Yamaha YSS-875EXHG belongs to the Custom EX family, developed through decades of research and testing carried out with leading saxophonists. This approach aims to combine tonal richness, flexible response and playing precision. Designed to meet the demands of the classical repertoire, the EX soprano prioritizes nuanced expression without sacrificing projection.

The HG version stands out with its high G key, integrated while preserving the original design and ergonomics of the keywork. The gold lacquer finishing, hand-engraved lily motif and Custom EX logo give the instrument a refined visual identity, directly reflecting the craftsmanship applied to each individual instrument.

A soprano for advanced musicians and the classical repertoire

This soprano saxophone is primarily intended for advanced and professional musicians looking for an instrument that responds sensitively to their playing intentions. Its classical orientation is well suited to sound development, singing lines and dynamic contrasts, whether playing solo, in chamber music or as part of a saxophone ensemble.

Its wide dynamic range allows you to move from restrained phrasing to a more assertive presence. The projection associated with the EX series helps carry the sound across a hall, while the flexible response supports articulation and changes in intensity. The two necks also allow you to choose a more natural position according to your posture.

A deep sound and keywork designed for a sensitive touch

The Custom EX is designed to produce a deep and refined sound, with enough tonal colors to shape every phrase. The bell, the flared part at the end of the instrument, is hand-hammered from a single sheet of brass. This construction contributes to tonal consistency and a smoother intonation in the middle and low registers.

The keywork, meaning the complete set of keys controlling the opening and closing of the tone holes, benefits from several refinements. The integrated keys contribute to moderate playing resistance. The adjustable teardrop-shaped front F key allows the contact point to be adapted to the player's preferences, while the left-hand B-flat lever promotes comfortable transitions.

The mother-of-pearl key buttons provide a smooth yet non-slip surface. In the upper register, the F-sharp and high G keys expand the possibilities of the keywork. On this HG version, the addition of the high G key is intended to facilitate access to this note and improve its intonation, without disrupting the hand's familiar reference points.

Two necks and a case to support your playing

The neck is the part connecting the mouthpiece to the saxophone body. Yamaha supplies two removable versions here, one straight and the other curved, allowing you to adjust the playing angle without changing instruments. For travel, the ultra-lightweight SSC-875EX case protects the soprano, while the included shoulder strap makes it easy to carry.
