Phonitor: SPL's "mastering" DNA, embodied in the cornerstone of digital monitoring
The Phonitor 3 DAC adopts SPL's critical monitoring approach: an analog section based on 120V technology and ergonomics designed for quick decision-making (source selection, headphone/speaker switching, spatialization controls). The integration of the SLP120 converter places the device at the heart of a modern chain, capable of accommodating various digital sources while maintaining a studio-oriented control philosophy: neutrality, headroom, and coherence between headphone and monitor listening.
Who the SPL Phonitor 3 DAC is for: mixing, mastering, production, and editing in demanding environments
Designed for producers, sound engineers, and mastering engineers, the Phonitor 3 DAC is aimed at those who want complete monitoring control in a compact format without multiplying boxes (DAC, headphone amp, controller). It is also perfectly suited for hybrid studios and "in the box" setups: you connect your digital source (USB, AES/EBU, S/PDIF), manage levels and listening selection, and enjoy headphone listening that remains usable for panning, depth, and spectral balance decisions.
The presence of Mono/Stereo, Solo L/R, and image correction tools (Laterality, phase inversion, swap) makes it a practical ally for checking mono compatibility, tracking polarity issues, or recentring a mix according to your listening position.

Questions frequently asked
What sources can be connected to the SPL Phonitor 3 DAC?
Six stereo inputs are available: two analog XLR inputs, USB, AES/EBU on XLR, coaxial S/PDIF, and optical S/PDIF. The SLP120 converter supports PCM up to 32-bit / 768 kHz and DSD up to DSD256.
Is the Phonitor Matrix useful for mixing on headphones?
The Phonitor Matrix adjusts the Crossfeed, the virtual speaker angle, and the center level. These three parameters aim to bring headphone listening closer to monitor placement for pan and stereo width decisions.
What headphone power does this controller deliver?
At 250 ohms, the headphone output delivers 2 x 5 W at 1 kHz for 1% THD. A rear DIP switch setting allows to increase its level by 12 dB.
Is it possible to quickly switch between headphones and speakers?
An output switch allows selecting headphone or speaker listening, with a center Mute position. This setup facilitates monitoring between two listening systems.
How to correct a shifted stereo center in listening?
The Laterality control shifts the stereo image to the left or right to adjust the center according to listening position. The Mono/Stereo, Solo L/R, phase inversion, and swap functions complement the monitoring checks.
