A Modern Tribute to 1970s Tape Delay

The UAFX Orion Tape Echo brings the spirit of a vintage tape echo from the golden era into a compact format, taking the character of a Maestro Echoplex EP-III as a reference. Designed in the lineage of the Starlight Echo Station algorithms, it prioritizes the "tape" feel above all: breathing repeats, slight compression, natural attack decay, and immediate depth. The result sits halfway between a musical ambiance effect and a sound design tool, with a decidedly vintage aesthetic but reliability built for the stage.

Who It's For, Which Styles, and Situations

The Orion is aimed at guitarists (and more broadly at any instruments compatible with mono input/output) who want a delay pedal with a lively character, ideal for blues, rock, indie, surf, and ambient genres. In the studio, it excels at thickening rhythm parts, adding a halo to leads, or creating imperfect repeats that blend naturally into the mix. Live, its size and straightforward approach make it a reliable choice for achieving a credible tape echo without mechanical constraints, while maintaining immediate control at the footswitch and knobs.

Finally, the dry signal remains fully analog, preserving your playing feel and dynamics even when the echo is very present.

Sound

The Orion's personality is immediately recognizable: smooth repeats, a gradual degradation that avoids the "digital copy" effect, and a sense of depth that adds dimension without overwhelming. The modeled preamp adds density and a
