The Pollinator Hazee Delay does not aim to replace a "standard" precise delay: it positions itself as a movement machine, designed to blur the lines between delay, modulation, and sound design. Its principle is simple but unusual: instead of "wobbling" the delay time like many modulated delays, the Hazee first shapes the sound via filter or tremolo, then sends it into the delay. The result: each repeat seems to breathe, transform, and take on its own musical direction.

In the studio, it excels at creating textures, ghostly counter-melodies, blurred pads, and irregular pulses. Live, it adds that "special sauce" that turns a simple effect into a true moment of sonic staging, while remaining quick to dial in on the pedalboard.

Modes, Settings, and Behavior: Simple on the Surface, Formidable in Depth

At the center, a selector provides access to 8 modes: four focused on filter modulation and four on tremolo modulation. Within each family, you find forward and reverse variations, as well as octave-up versions to thicken the delay and bring an almost "pitchy" color into the imaginary stereo field, even on a mono chain. The two "Queen Bee" modes go further: the delay buffer is played back at double speed, generating a layer an octave higher with responses highly dependent on what you play.
The controls remain intentionally straightforward: Time (delay time), Feedback (number of repeats), Mix (effect blend), and Mod (modulation intensity), plus the mode selector. A tasty detail: in "Queen Bee" modes, pushing the Time beyond the midpoint allows you to gradually blend the "normal" signal and the octave layer, creating very interactive timbre transitions, perfect for build-ups, drones, or delays that morph as you play.

The Hazee Delay stands out with a misty and organic grain despite its modern approach: the repeats do not just "repeat," they undulate, filter, tremble, and thicken like living material. With conservative settings, you get subtle movement that widens the sound without crushing it; pushing Feedback and Mod shifts into thick textures, reversed bounces, octave halos, and blurred rhythms that give the impression the delay becomes an instrument in its own right. The dynamics remain closely linked to the attack and harmonic content sent into the pedal: the richer you play, the more the Pollinator reacts and colors the repeats with character.
